Re: N.Y. Sharking in August All the usual spots between 20 & 30 fathoms will hold sharks during August.Biggest difference from June and early July fishing is that most of the larger Makos will have moved on by Aug.Still there are plenty of Makos around the 125lb class as well as some Threshers and of course a few blue sharks and brown sharks for some action. As a bonus check out any floating debris as well as under the "NA" bouy and the NOAA weather bouy for Mahi Mahi which show up in August.By the end of August you'll also have false albacore around on the sharking grounds which are a blast on light tackle.Productive areas out of FI inlet are the Yankee wreck, the Burnside, the Linda, the Virginia, the Rockpiles and the Schooner to name a few.Looking back my best fish in August was a 238 lb Mako at Rockpiles 3 just 10 years ago.Good luck. |
