Random Quote: Does history record any case in which the majority was right? LL
Picked up my firstTuna of the season on Friday. 10 Minutes into our first troll. 2ndTuna came in 30 minutes later. Broke it off after that and wore out our arms hauling some 20+ stripers all in the 32-36" range with one 44.
Nice tuna man, we got our first tuna as well on the 19th on a home made sluggo daisy chain it was 54" 100 lbs, fish came off the nwc on stellwagon. How big was yours?
More Details:
1st fish measured 55"
2nd fish measured 57"
Both taken on 13" black squid bars with a chartreus stinger but they were also hitting other colors. Trolling maybe 60 yds behind the boat at about 4.5 knotts.
The recreational daily bluefin tuna (BFT) retention for limit for HMS Angling and HMS Charter/Headboat vessels (while fishing recreationally) is 1 BFT/vessel/day/trip, measuring 27 to less than 47”, and 1 BFT/vessel/day/trip, measuring 47 to less than 73" CFL. This limit effective through December 31, 2008. These BFT retention limits are effective for all areas, except for the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf of Mexico is designated as a spawning grounds for BFT and therefore NMFS does not allow vessels, commercial or recreational, to target BFT while fishing in this area. However, HMS Angling and HMS Charter/Heaboats are eligible to retain 1 BFT (73 inches or greater) per vessel per year as a “trophy” fish for the boat. This fish may be retained in the Gulf of Mexico if it is caught incidentally while pursuing other species. The recreational yellowfin tuna daily retention limit is 3 yellowfin/person. The minimum size for yellowfin and bigeye tuna is 27" curved fork length. There are no recreational limits for bigeye, skipjack or albacore tunas.
Everytime you walk out of a store does someone pass you on the street and ask.." I assume you payed for that "? Do you need someone to remind you every year to pay your taxes, buy a permit, hunting license, stay under the speed limit or wipe your A$$? By asking the question you assume I am doing something illegal or that I am stupid enough to not know better correct? No I have not answered your idiotic question and don't intend to.
Great Job Barely . nice fish hope we have some luck this comming saturday , Hey Speedy , please say your sorry to Barely Legal !! he did say his second fish hooked up 30 minutes later and BROKE OFF !! and...... his name is Barely Legal NOT Illegal !!! lol
Not speaking for Speedy but I think he did it was a kind gesture....Not everyone is up on the latest tuna regs and I'm sure he did it so Barely Legal would not get in trouble for doing something accidentally. Go out to NWC or SWC and you'll hear someone ask a question about the regs at least 1x per day in the early season.
Nice fish- your address appears to be in New Hampshire- were you fishing that far north ? I am in NJ and didn't think the Tuna had migrated up this far yet.
Thanks Joe you are correct
I commented on what a great job he did and then reminded anyone fishing for tuna that the regs do change from year to year. Sorry you got your undies in a bundle over it.
Good luck and safe boating for the balance of the season.
Speedy Too: What gives you the right to think you should educate everyone else or that you are even smarter than the rest of us that we need your idiotic remarks. If you wanted to know if I was legal a more appropriate query would have been vailed in a question like "Did you get a good release on the 2nd fish". You were being an A$$ and when caught in your own stupidity you look for support anywhere you can get it.
TMOUTINHO: I have a family home in Plymouth, MA. The fish were picked up on the south end of Stellwagen.
Barely Legal,
This is a boating and fishing forum designed to help educate and inform other people who participate and enjoy the activity and sport. What gives me the right to help educate others? Come on man lighten up......I in no way assumed you kept more than your limit just trying to help a newbie like we all are or were at one time......
Doug, as you and I were passing each other on Saturday you leaned out the cockpit and said... "like taken candy from a baby" just as your guys and my son and wife doubled up on Stipers in the midst of the boating mayhem at the bars. No charter today?
Yes it is the 2007 Everglades bay boat model. Was a lucky pickup last season. I have had it out in some pretty tough water for its size and it holds up great. Sometime when I run into you on the dock or at East Bay grill I'll give you the full details but needless to say I payed less than 12K for the entire setup. I just need to add some outriggers on it and I'll be a happy camper...er boater.
