Default Salt Water Fishing License For 2009 ?

Saw this article in the boston globe this morning.... this is not new information, but it seems more likely now than in previous articles that I have read.......

http://www.boston.com/lifestyle/gree...es_fee/?page=1

They can't seem to control the commercial fishing industry, so now they will control the "sport".

I'm going to pull up a chair, get a diet pepsi and some ritz crackers and enjoy the responses to this thread !!

Have a great day everyone !!

They can't ontrol the commercial fisheries...ok lets see I pay $525 a year just for my state permit...whats 25 bucks...Mass is going to do it on their own because at least then the money will stay in the state...if we don't the feds are going to mandate it anyway and the funds will go to them...Florida has a license and there are beautiful ramps, fillet stations ect...all over...I have absolutely zero opposition to it and further more I would probably pay $50 bucks....I already pay $65 for my sporting license....you pay for gas, tackle...whats $25 bucks in the course of an 8 month season? $3.13 a month it would also help poaching licenses now would be checked and a lot of those keping short fish probably would not have a license therefore doubling the crime....

Your right..................whats another $25....................I love Big Brother
send me your phone # and I will let you pay mine
and also let you do the catch reports that will follow

And what is your take on short fish?
The 28" Min is a joke and does ZERO and you call it a crime cause big brother says so
Killing one 42" cow is like killing 100's of small fish but you would do that in a heartbeat
The bottom line is the goverment will regulate and tax you to death with nothing good to come from it.
You can kiss the comercial bass season good bye next.
Wellfleet has a beautiful brand new launch/facilities without the effin state or the feds taking more money from anyone for another useless license.

You know, I'm probably not totally against the license issue. I'm sure that there are several positive things that COULD come out of that type of mandate. However, as you point out.... it appears that Florida has utilized the $$$$ in an appropriate mannner and given back to the user groups.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but what has this state done for the commercial fisherman relative to plowing $$$$ back into the industry to help the fishereman ?? I just have not heard of any benefits.... I hope there are some.

Given the way the Taxachusetts spends it's acrued tax dollars, I can only assume that any monies reaped from salt water fishermen will be given out to people on wellfare (after all, this is the #1 wellfare state in the country), or some such expenditures. I do not see new ramps or bait cutting stations on the horizon for the wonderful coast of this state.

It is certainly not going to help us that run charter boats. We are already raising prices due to the cost of fuel now we'll have to make sure everyone gets a fishing license as well.

THis is a ruse. They already have relatively accurate estimates of fish stocks, particularly Stripers. They know they have made a comeback in recent decades. They didn't need to charge to find that out. Keep electing liberals and big government demoncats and soon you will have no right to fish unless you are a government scientist doing research or a Senator named Kennedy.

I do catch reports now, once a wek its not that bad, I don't think the government is looking for catch reports, they want to know who is fishing, and you know what I support that idea because I am not for no fishing zones, lioke they have in california, so the more people we have signing up to utilize the resource the more power we have to fend off MPA's...but if you guys want to help fuel the CLF go ahead fight it...its 25 bucks, you pay more than that for a spool of wire...

Also I already pay 10bucks a year to register as a charterboat in mass, I would pay an extra 150 for my clients, like florida does, also AK which has one of the most flourishng resources around, (i guided there) has a license and limits on how many fish a non resident can take from the state in a year...that is done by the state not NMFS...King Salmon changes from year to year based upon the hatchery returns...when I was there a client could take 3, then one yaer it was two....and so on this infromation was taken from reports from charters and locals and you know what the fisheries there are awesome...not saying that mass is going to be like that but it is just an example of things working...

Did Welfleet have a fund raiser for that ramp or do you think they applied for a grant from somewhere?

There will always be arguments for or against any new law.

You can call this what you want but it is just another goverment regulatory user fee (tax) that has absolutly no merit and will continue to rise in cost and do nothing but provide some very otherwise useless people with a goverment job.

End of Effin story.............OK

It came from a combination of Federal, State and local tax revenue

The bottom line is instead of the damn goverment asking me for more of my money tospend have them figure out how to spend what I give them already in a semi responsable manner

Don't take what I said as a shot at you...................Dude you are a local and the bottom line is I would go to earths end for any local fisherman.

The point i was trying to make is .....welllets look at this

from Newburyport to Kittery is about 20 miles with three totaly different ideas on how to protect the bass population.which one is the better? why is a 27" fishshort in Ma but not in Me.and your Keeper in CCB is illegal in Me.

I am sorry buddy but I am just totally opposed to another useless goverment agency claiming that it is going to help me by charging me to fish

I agree there, it is just different states management plans...ME also has a slot, we don't...we have meetings and any signed petitions that are brought forward to the state are looked at...the other thing is if this is a federal agency stripers would not even be counted, as it is the law that you can not retain or fish for them in federal waters...
