The ramp in Mamaroneck (harbor island park) is the best one that I know of in the area, easy to use, even at low tide. They charge a fee during the day I think, but you don't need to be a resident.
try a google search there is a website out there that list all boat ramps around the country and all the info on them like parking, fees, grade, paved etc. I had it saved on an old computer but lost it
You need to be a Westchester County resident to use the New Rochelle Ramp. The Mamaroneck ramp is your best bet. Could I ask why you want to come so far down into LI Sound? Be sure to study your charts as there are quite a number of confusing channels and rocks/shoals out in areas you'd never think...I know from 1st hand experience when I first started boating. If you are serious about coming down this way I'd be happy to help with some local knowledge.

Thanks Dal-
The reason I am looking for info is that there is a large rendevous of Boston Whaler owners planning to go around the Island of Manhattan, it started with 14 and now has 100 or so and the media involved, see here:
I am planning on towing my little boat down from RI to take part in the event but I do not want to tow into the city or run down the sound from CT so I though Port Chester, or somewhere in the vicinity of PC, would be a good compromise?
Do you think I would be better off further down the Sound?
ok..so that is a whole different game. I hope who ever is planning this has local knowledge of the east river. In full swing during an outgoing tide the east river, by Gracey Mansion, becomes a series of 4-6ft rollers that will swamp a small boat. I personally wouldn't go through it with anything less that a 24-25ft boat. It's actually pretty scarry. Every smaller boat I've ever seen approach the river during that time usually turns around. During slack tide it's flat and calm. Not to say it can't be done, I would just advise caution when planning this. Launching from Mamaroneck is a bit of a run, there is a ramp in Jersey City that putts you right behind the Statue of Liberty in Manhattan Harbor, I can send you that info if you need it. If you want to stick with Mamaroneck let me know and I can be there to help launch and direct you out..bring a paper chart.
The ramp in jersey city sounds great, if can email me that info I would be most appreciative, admin@classicseacraft.com As for local knowledge and if you have the time read the thread at the link I posted above.
