Default Cod fishing Saturday on the NW corner

Went codfishing Saturday and hooked into this monster yesterday out on Stellwagon Bank. It grabbed onto a #13/0 treble hook attached to a 17.5 oz. stainless steel jig. My Cape Fear 30-50 ro with a TLD 30 2 speed had all it could do to bring this bad boy onto the deck of the boat. As you will see, there was no need to question the new 24" size requirement on cod fish for the 2008 season. I'd love to meet the idiots who set these size limits. Capt. George (aka Codfisher) of the vessel Lady Diane could not recall seeing a fish in this size class in the more than 30 years he's fished the North Atlantic waters. Take a very close look at the size of eyes on this fish. They are huge!

We had a great time on the water yesterday. There were quite a few boats out considering the cold, wet weather. The 1-2's grew to 4+ at times. Heading east @ 0600 was tough but westbound for shore @ 1500 allowed us to pick up the pace. Had the rules for minimum size not changed to 24, we would have brought back coolers filled with cod.

Why dont i see a accurate reel in that picture and i see a shimano reel. That drag on the accurate might have really struggled landing that beast.

Tim,

That Accurate real is sitting on a G Loomis on my rack in the basement that did not see daylight that day. I have repairs to tend to... Busted up one gimble on a St Croix and my Cape Fear has a loose gimble. I couldn't get my other St Croix out of the hands of one of the others. He was so happy with it I know for fact he was going out to buy one for himself. The high speed retrive placed a nice cut on his hand with the braid. This guy never bitched and kept fishing. He brought his own set up and never wet the line.

That Accurate needs a bigger stick to be more than truthful with you. I'll just have to buy one.

Did you sort out your problems?

Rob
