Default Charlestown Breachway, Rhode Island

Anybody here have experience running in and out of this breach? I have a 23' CC with 225 four-stroke that I'm thinking of putting down there this season. Any info would be appreciated.
thanks,
John Gov.

Should'nt be a problem with a 23 footer, i've seen much bigger boats going in and out of there. I have'nt been in there in a couple of years but there used to be a rock to your right heading out that you had to watch out for, I heard they dredged the channel since so the rock may not be a problem anymore.

Not a problem with that size boat, there was indeed some dredging done a few years back, and the latest revision to the USCG chart shows the current depths. I believe that all the hazards were removed from the Breechway. All you have to do is contend with the 200 fisherman casting at you!!

That boat is plenty for the breachway, although having lived on the pond my whole life there are days when even that size boat isn't enough. Just follow the signs and markers going out. Once through the breachway keep straight for about 200 yards or so and you are fine. The only trouble going out is a huge rock on the right side which can't be seen at high tide, hence the 200 yard clearance I stated. Also, be careful on a rough day and an outgoing tide. That breachway has claimed many boats and you should always keep an eye on it going out to make sure there are no surprises (i.e. unexpected rollers, etc)....They did dredge the pond a bit the last few years but that doesn't really pertain to the breachway itself. Just be careful, have a decent day, and you will be fine. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Not a problem at all just make sure you head straight out of the breachway. There are large submerged rocks sometimes below the waterline roughly 10-15' past the RH rock wall. I sure miss that breachway as the inshore fishing out of Charlestown from May-Nov is nothing short of fantastic.

Can I fit a 30' Wellcraft 290 Coastal thru the breachway into the pond for camping? A buddy says it should be no problem, but I'd like to hear from those who have been there and done that...thanks,

Is it an inboard, outboard, or i/o? the pond is pretty shallow but near the breachway there are places you could anchor. Not sure it is ideal for overnight. Give me more specifics on what you are trying to do?

There's an anchorage in upper Pt.Judith salt pond that will certainly handle that boat. There are some big boats that run the Breachway, but by very experienced individuals that run the pond frequently.

I have a 23 Proline and I get out no problem, just watch the weather and the tides. I hit the rock the end of October...it sucks I wish they would get rid of those rocks.

I'm just looking for a place to anchor overnight on our weekend jaunts from Ct. Its a new and bigger boat for me so I want to do some due diligence on taking it into the breachway or pond. Its got Twin 225 hp outboards.

thanks.

This will be my first year attemting to get out of the charlestown Breacway. For many years i launched in Weekapuag and came out of the Weekapaug breachway.

Is it safe going out with a 19' CC?

See my answer above. 19 is plenty of boat so long as the weather is good.
