Default NEED LOCAL ADVICE!!!

I am transferring from Pensacola to barnstable MA for a year and wanted to do some fishing while I was there but not sure what to do about my boat. I have a 15' McKee craft that I use all over the gulf coast for speck and red fishing (inshore fishing) and it is a great skiff very good for skinny water flats but strong enough for the RUFF bays. My question is would this be a good boat for me to take to MA, it is no trouble for me to take to MA but don't want to take something that I will not be needed. Are there areas to inshore fish and what species are targeted? is this a good Idea?

That boat will be great in and around barnstable, You can catch fluke, stripers and blues. Striper fishing starts early and goes till Oct.. The flats outside are perfect for fly fishing for schoolies. Good Luck

Definitely bring it. I've fished the Buzzards Bay & Narragansett bay area & there is plenty of territory accessible by decent boat ramps for your boat. Hopefully the Cape guys can chime in with Barnstable area specifics. The schoolie stripers will start hitting in a month or so. Tautog (blackfish), fluke (summer flounder), bluefish, scup, sea bass are all accessible from your boat. I believe the Cape also has a sea trout run. Call Red Top Baits in Bourne ((508) 759-3371) for info. Not sure of the Barnstable shops.

Barnstable harbor is loaded with stripers in the spring and is well protected for that type of boat. Bring it.

Look up Steve Moore (that's his user name too) on this forum. He's an area guide, and knows those skinny area waters well. I'm sure he would give you some advice, and it would prob. be money well spent on hiring him for a day or two to get your bearings. Barnstable Harbor is probably one of the best areas around here for small boat/back-water fishing.

I agree. Bring the boat. Grab a tide chart as well. A lot of water moves in and out of the harbor every 6 hours. The sandbars and boat ramps can be tricky.

I live in Barnstable and fish the harbor at least 3-5 days a week. Drop me a line when you get up here and I can give you more detailed info regarding tides and fishing spots.

It's a great harbor with lots to offer. Your boat is ideal for it as well.

Barnstable harbor is a great place for a boat that size, At low tide watch the channel their are lots of shallow spots. Also the south side Nantucket sound is great for fishing all summer. Boat ramps in the town of Barnstable on the south side have limited parking especially for non residents but a short drive to East Falmouth next to Edwards boat yard has good parking and easy axcess to fishing or a ride to the Vinyard.. We spend a lot of time on the sandbar just outside Sandy Neck in the summer wave on your way by.
