What are the opinions out there for best braided line for cod rods? I currently have powerpro braid and am going to re-spool. I have been pretty happy with it except for a few nicks that developed in it.
It ain't cheap but check out the Daiwa braids. The Saltiga Boat Braid is marked similar to lead core line so you always know how much line is out, great for jigging for fish higher in the water column. They also just came out with Samurai Braid, same as the Saltiga just solid green in color. It's by far the smoothest line I've ever used and slightly thinner than most other braids.

Before the dogfish became a problem in Cape Cod Bay I used 30lb power pro. The light line allowed me to use 6 oz jigs. I since changed to 50lb power pro and have gone to 8 to 12 oz jigs. I still lose a few jigs to the dogs but the lighter line makes jigging all day possible.
I use to use only power pro but once I tried the cortland master braid I switched all of my convetional reels over. This line is alittle thicker than power pro but not by much and is alot tougher and doesnt dig into the spool and is very tough to backlash. After fishing the fisrt prototype of this line three years ago all of my conventional reels have been loaded with it. Just dont put it on a spin reel because it it to stiff and doesn't cast well. The other great thing about it is that the rated strength on the box isn't its break strength but its knot strenght. The thirty and fifty pound line is all I have had to use because of how strong it is. The abrasion resistance on this line is off the charts as well. the cost is alittle bit more than the power pro as well starting around $27.00 for a 300yd spool. Give it a try and you won't regret it. The only place I have found it is the kittery trading post.
whatever I can get cheapest on ebay. usually manage to get 1500 yd spools of 80 or 100 for around $75. (takes a little work, auction watching) I havn't noticed a huge difference between any of them. yea, some are thinner, some are stiffer, all seem to perform reasonly well.
Nice thing about JB hollow core is if you have a break off and lose some line you simply splice on some more ..splice is 100% as good as original. You can do loop to loop connectons, or mono to braid slpices and advoid the hassle of knots as well.
Jerry Brown is way overrated and over priced. If you want to pay more than you need to to say you have jerry brown great other wise you cant beat cortland spectron.
Jerry brown is really good line some say the best but an extreame waist of money for cod fishing.. Comon guys we are talking about cod fishin not tuna or marlin. 50 lb Power pro is plenty. just be sure to use a mono leader for handling safety
