I live in RI, I own a boat and would like to learn how, what, when, were, to catch live mackerel.

hop on a midwater trawler, cause they're hellbent on catching every last one!

With the absence of midwater boats, they're easy to catch .sabiki rig . many sizes/styles will work. any small metal will also work.

Havn't really seen a run of them the last few years though,since the midwater boats are destroying what was once one of the most abundant fish on the east coast.

Mackerel aren't extinct? Used to catch 1000's in LIS---not anymore. A multi tube rig will catch 6 at a time. A light spinning rod and a Kastmaster will catch plenty and provide light tackle fun.

Used to catch all you would want several years ago right in Lord's Passage off Stonington. But nothing for the past 10 years or so.
