Default Re: Trolling reels for Stripers!!!

I have been using penn 330gti my who life thats what i use for tuna, stripers, blues, cod, flounder. I have 2 that are about 10+ years old that I have never serviced or cleaned and I have caught thousands of stripers and blues on. I have them loaded with a million yards of 60lb powerpro braid and I even troll daisy chains with them I catch 60lb footballs on the all the time I caught 175lb bluefin on it last year. I cant say it the best reel out there cause I have never used anything else but the abuse and neglect I have put that thing trough over the years i think thats more reason that I would get a gti

Pasta man. Levelwinds although not a preferance of the hardcore elite do have many benefits, the fisherman,or woman does not have to worry about laying the line. some newbies need all their strength just to hold the pole. some women and many youngsters can't do it because their hands are too small. You avoid frusration and they enjoy fishing!
If your knots can't pass through the level wind you must need more practice. The jap penns are still excellent tools.
You certainly will not be disapointed with the 320 or 330 the 330 being a better choice for umbrella rigs, Double duty for bottom fishing. I have 2 penn 3/0 trolling rods as someone refered to earlier W/ penn309 levelwind 45' lead core Just for trolling eels ten yrs and lots of strippers. If you feel you need a line counter buy one you can put on any rod About $15 Don't go crazy spend you$$ wisely.

Levelwind reels make it fun for the novice. Less agravating for the Capt.

AVET makes great reel for the money, machined from billet aluminum, no stamp sheet metal......Lever drag is key (IMHO)...plus they make left hand retrieve reels, which is bonus.

I love my penn 330gt. I have other penns but the level wind has worked great for all lines and great with kids.
