Default SMELT FISHING

I am headed to the great state of ME next weekend for a little R&R. Has anyone been out smelt fishing yet and if so what camps are up and running? Any numbers of fish for the folks that did get out. I need to get out again. It will not be Sunday afternoon though during the Championship Game.

Last winter before Christmas I was catching them off the float docks behind Woods Restaurant in Plymouth till the sun went down, but they were only as big as 5 inches. This past Fall, I think Oct or early Nov, I was catching them along with the peanuts, alwive, and those red sea perch things on sabiki's on the corner of Sandwich Marina and the canal. I was not alone, there were at least 10 others keeping everything they hooked throwing them into 5 gal pals.

Went to Worthing's in Randolf last Friday. We had a brutal day as it was right after the raistorm and the current was ripping. Only caught three smelt. A truly lame performance. That said, the day before they had a banner day with one shack getting 1500 during the day tide!

Get the jig boards. You catch twice as many. And don't go after a monsoon. Lesson learned.
