Someone just sent me this yourtube video link, anyone recognize the fishermen / boat ? Just wondering if holding the angler who's fighting shark by the back of his harness is an allowable technique ?

Actually thats my boat. Anyone who fished the tourny in 06 would know why we were holding the angler. Slippery deck from water coming of the back of the boat due to the lovely tropical storm we had that fine day made for not such a nice day on the water. And I had them hold the angler due to poor sea conditions. Thats all I needed was someone to slip and go swimming with the fishy's. Safety was a big concern that weekend.

boxcars4,

I believe it is IGFA legal to hold on to the angler as long as you do not assist in the fighting of the fish..... I am not 100% sure though. So I THINK you are OK with tourney rules. I am SURE you are smart and safe. It was ugly out there...

Ya I don't think there are any IFGA rules for holding the angler. Can't imagine IFGA saying no holding angler for any reason let him go in the drink. As long as there is no assist. I do take as much care as possible to play by the rules and if it was wrong then so be it safety alwasy first. And as much fun the money would be for that tourny. Bringing back my crew according to the wifes and family is more important. Nasty was a good word for it. And this year was a fair cry from being nice. Just think next year I plan on it being bright sunny and being able to drink martinis on the way home with out spilling a drop. Yes the treehugger video was a good one. But u will never be able to make them understand the concept of fishing.

i fought some decent sized sharks up to 300 lbs. and if for one second i didnt think my footing was secure i surly would hope sombody would hold onto my belt. if you go over you better hope sombody is with you( god) besides the sharks you were chumming up. its not to easy to slip outta a harness while getting dragged away from the boat your supposed to be on. so i agree completely with safety over rules of any tournment.

If you can sit in a fighting chair I would suspect it is OK for someone to hold your belt.
