1st off great forum. 1st trip for cod; learned all the typical lessons. Took a couple of buds out Tues 10/22. Splashed in at Sailsbury ramp (docs pulled). 19' Alum Spectra (high sided), 115Mariner and after reading this forum thru a 9.9 kicker on.
Headed for N42.39.906 W70.28.269; fell short 3 miles do to the building seas. This placed us off Cape Ann at 150' of water. From the moment our jigs (simple weight/clam rigs) hit the water we were on fish. Perhaps 10 Cod at 22 - 20". Couple of 20" Cusk. Lots of DogFish. With SW wind and seas building we made a short run towards the lee side of Cape Ann; other side of the trench

More Cod and Dog.
Lessons learned; 1) we ended up covering 50+miles... damn. Drive the truck closer (CapeAnn) 2) keep the weight down; with a kicker, full coolers, full gas tanks gear; etc... on a 19' it was difficult to maintain WOT which meant lots of bogging (not good). 3) Plan for rough seas by hitting the S. West corner of Jefferies and popping back into CapeAnn worked well.
Question. There were perhaps 7 "large" vessels in 280'+ feet of water perhaps 10miles NNW of Jefferies SW tip. Any ideas what they were?
