Default Last try for stripers at Race Point / Peaked Hill Bar

Going out on Wednesday for one last trip this season before I haul her out. Going to be jigging with wire and maybe try some tube and worm for the first time (if I can get around to picking up a lead core setup). Also casting with light tackle with my favorite RonZ lures - so much more fun than trolling, but not as successful this year...

Any reports appreciated. We were out last Saturday with totally gorgeous weather in the late afternoon. Lots of birds and bait on Peaked Hill, but nothing caught but dogfish. We caught two nice bluefish jigging with wire at Herring Cove but no luck on the stripers. But we're still learning so we were plenty happy. Actually it was so beautiful out it wouldn't have mattered if we got skunked.

JTC get yout there early, not surewhybut the dogs seem to move onto the bar after noon. We fished with great success on that same day but got an earlier start, we were on the bar at 7AM. We had 2 jigs and a tube going, the only keeper striper action was on the all black 3 oz. bucktail. 1 schoolie on the tube. As soon as the dogs show up you should plan on moving, usuall I'll head over to the race, the dogs don't seem to like the water movement at the race.

Just as a reference, High tide last Saturday was around 9:00AM, we caught most of our fish right around the high. Less as it got closer to noon.

Yeah, I'm realizing that dawn is the time to be out there, but unfortunately I'll probably won't make it until more like noon. But the forecast looks great so far!

Got out to Herring Cove around 3pm today just in time to see literally hundreds of schoolies breaking at the surface. There was NO wind or waves at all - the entire bay as flat as a lake - we just drifted along the ridge where they were breaking and cast soft lures. Caught and released a couple of feisty juveniles which was great fun.

The surface bite died down and we switched to wire jigging and nailed two more juvies about 10 seconds after we got the line set. Then we snagged hard on the bottom and had to cut loose (2nd time that happened to me there - must be some rocks or something).

So - no keepers, but it really could not have been a more beautiful day. On the way back to Sesuit Harbor we even saw two footballs leaping out of the water! This was half way back, so well into the bay. We circled back to see if we could find a school to cast in to, but no luck.

Ah - that makes sense. Whatever it was, the jig was completely stuck. We tried going back over it and around at various angles, but there was no give whatsoever.
