Living in NH and working in NYC this week, heading back Friday and I need to find a good tackle shop that sells big game gear. I am in need of some new 80lb mono and other tuna targets.
I would prefer anywhere from the CT/NY border on 95 to 91. Not heading into RI...
Fishermans Headquarters gets my vote. However, if you hit 91, you have overshot the store by 50 miles. The above post should say exit 16 off of beautiful I95. Based on the traffic in that area, you may as well get off to take a break.
On a side note, for inshore stuff, you say you are in New Haven. Dee's on Clay street is the best shop around. Ask for Pete or Joe and tell them Rich told you about it. Good people.

I can vouch for Fisherman's World as well. While I only go in for inshore stuff, they do seem to have lots of offshore gear.
If you are already in Manhattan you can try Capital Fishing Tackle. They moved last year and are now at 132 W. 36th Street, between 7th and Broadway. I know they have a lot of offshore tackle as well. Their # is 212-296-6132 if you want to call to see if they have what you are looking for.
Niantic is off of your route, no one seems to notice your original post about not following 95 into RI but going up 91. Niantic will take you at least an extra hour if not more of drive time. The shops there (J&B, Hillyers) are good, but if you want to add another hour+ go for it. I-95 is an unpredictable ride at ALL times, plan accordingly.
If you go beyond the I95/91 Junction in New Haven and keep on I95 to Old Saybrook, an extra 20 minutes, take exit 68, Rivers Edge Tackle at 440 Boston Post Rd (Rt 1). They have stuff from fly to offshore tuna. Ask for Pat Abate. Tell him Judy from the Vineyard sent you. It's between the town of Old Saybrook and the Connecticut River. Good spot for gas & a quick bite (Pat's country kitchen at the light/RR bridge). Then take Route 9 north (High speed interstate) to Hartford and I91; it goes up the west side of the Ct River to I91.
Boondocks about a mile (less?) before Foxwoods Casino. Nice place, load with tackle and knowledge
J&B Niantic a very good=probably the best shop I have been in IMHO.
