Default Out of Great Pond Falmouth looking for tips: albacore, bonito or bass

I am retired navy chief now live in New England and have fished with my elderly father in law for Fluke in MV Sound. I have a 20' Grady White with a full complement of electronics out & down riggers if needed. I'm hoping to learn more about fishing for albacore, bonito or bass. Any suggestions or tips: fishing rigs, locations etc. I've been boring holes in the Sound west of Falmouth Beaches to Nobska Point and east to Popponesett. I realize each species is different and it takes time. Any help would be greatly appreciated...even from the Marines Thanks!

Thank you for the info...I was outside of Waquoit on Sunday afternoon and had no luck. I tried throwing crippled herring, deadly dick silver type jig and trolling small yo-zuri lures on fluorocarbon leaders. I'm going to give it another try this weekend. Any other ideas besides patience?? Thanks again.

small world....im in great pond (great harbors) as well on a 33 grady...goin out today for bonitos/albies....sounds like you got the right spots and tackle....

instead of running and gunning for them....try watching for their patterns..i.e. watch where they come up for a while, you'll notice a pattern....then its easier to anticipate where they will pop up and you will be there before they are...

also, hedge fence is a good place to troll for them.....

additionally, there are massive schools of bunker in great pond....fill a live well....chum to the bones to bring them to u

Thanks for the tips...I'll try to pattern the fish as you suggest. When you say outside of Waquoit how far off? Should I just look for signs of birds, boats or fish or all the above?

We should have a great weekend weather wise and I hope to spend most of it on the water...you know what they say....practice makes perfect!

I'm in the last cove on the left as your heading out of the pond....my boat's the Miss Ellie. I usually have channel 68 dialed up. Be safe, good luck and have a great weekend.

Chief,

As d.a.d.s. posted, Hedge fence is a great place for trolling. Yazuri silverbacks work great. I'm normally out in a 20' Welcraft CC but if you're ever looking for a fellow chief (not Navy but a Puddle Pirate) to go out with let me know.

fished for bones/false albies on friday...tough conditions but lots of fish around.....we hooked up off south cape beach and toward cotuit....best thing to do to find the fish is to find the birds....when they are tight together as a group there are probably fish under them.....when they start diving...the fish are comin up....

we found schools of bonito, false ablies, and spanish macks....

probably headin out again fri-sun....ill turn on 68 and if it works out...we can work it together....

To windy for me on Saturday...but...I found large schools off of Waquiot on Sunday morning through early afternoon until the wind picked up. Fish busting everywhere.
I hooked one fish and enjoyed the fight. He made three runs but unfortunately he broke me off at the boat when I tried to land him. I was amazed at all the fish!!!
Thanks to everyone who answered my mail.

I am out of Great Harbors also. Sandpiper Circle. Looking for current place where bass are hitting. Been out to quicks and robinson recently. (two weekends ago) It was dead. Great sea bass and winter flounder, but no stripers or blues.

You found winter flounder at the holes? That's better than bonito, in my opinion. What were you catching them on?
