Fished east/south side of the north ridge yesterday from 7:30am to 12. Water was 73.5-74 degrees, nice and clean, but green. Trolled 6 lines with everything from Daisy chains (small green squid bodies), bunker spoon (down about 8' with a drail), small spreader bars (blue/white and green), jet heads, and small cedar plug. And caught fish on every single thing I put out. Got about 25 bonito and one large blue fish. Missed about 5 knock downs - it's tough trolling alone! Kept some of the bonito and the bluefish for shark bait. With the bonito coming into the ridge, can the bluefin be far behind?
I keep hearing about the cigar.. Can anyone share GPS coordiantes? Hoping to have my boat rigged with the new engine and ready to go fishing by the end of next week...

i have been hearing good bluefin reports from some spots farther off than the ridge. check out some spots 20-30 miles off. if you don't have the range go to the ridge at sun-up. i have always done best on the southeast side of the south ridge as or before the sun comes up. get out there early.
my tackle...small feathers and jets, small clarkspoon on #1 planer, and cedar plugs. i don't bother with spreader bars or chains because of the bluefish, even trolling fast they hit once in a while. keep your eyes out for floating debris, mahi are around
We caught about 8 blue fin, 2- in the 50 lb range, the rest in the 20 to 30 lb range and 1 dolphin. The 2 larger ones hit on ballyhoo and the small ones and dolphin on cedar plugs. As y2jeffr says above you have to be there at sun up. We released all but 1 large one and the dolphin.
Great catch John! I have the range to hit the cigar, but it just wouldn't be a very fun ride down there from B.I. If I'm going to travel that kind of distant I think I would rather keep heading east. Any other thoughts on locations out of BI that would be reasonable in a 24' Rampage (single straight inboard)? I always figured I would push an offshore trip on the right day up to about 45-50 miles (but not alone!). Hopefully the weather will cooperate for this saturday, but right now it's not looking too good. - Glen
Oh yeah one more question, what was the conditions like at the cigar?

Lots of good spots for Sharks and Southern speedsters in your range. The Star, Fingers, and Resor to name a few popular spots. Basically pick up a chart and troll up and down the 30 fathom line and you should score..........
The conditions were very nice about 1' to 2 ' and I was almost flat on the ride in. I fish in as 2360 sailfish so I am sure you could make it out there. Let hope for a nice Sat.
I am heading down the end of the month to fish for a week. I have a 22' grady and I am looking to troll (tuna - mahi) and drift for shark w/in 20-25 miles of BI. Keep in touch, maybe we can buddy up.
