Default Blues around barnegat inlet....

I normaly don't go for blues but figured I would give it a try this weekend. When I have caught blues it's been by chance. I know the ridge is very active but don't go out that far. So if I stay close to BL inlet any spots worth a try? Also, I know most would troll but anyone chum for them? I've never used plugs but I'm told thats the way to go.....any info would be a huge help.

i would troll for them, weve been geting them in the bay to from the 40 bouy to the bb, then going outside, trolling krocodile spoons, you could chum also. anchor up in a nice spot of a deepwater drop, or ledge like a mile out or more (you dont have to go out far) like 40ft.of water has been good 40 to 60ft. ive been getting them, butterfisha dn bunker chunk work real good, for bait fishing geta blue fish chunk rig with the wire leader on it and atach a bunker chunk on it and just let it free fall down into the water with the freespool , you can add little split shots on to your line also. just let that chum into the water, and get a nice slick going. you can also jig krocodile spoons, crippled herrings, and etc. anything metal that flashes and spins works real well, drop it to the bottom, crank it really fast or just jig it on the bottom. you can also plug, i make my own custom wooden plugs, poppers and ive found that a nice 2 ft. deep running gibbs type lure (danny swimmer) works real good when the blues are around, or a top water bite is always fun too. again you dont have to go too far out to get nice sized blues in the ocean. good luck!!
