Default concrete boat

heard about them for years-finally saw one. A boat made of Concrete. You'd never know it was a boat made of cement . Looks just like a steel hull. The boat is a 50x13 Trawler hull a guy was builing to use as a personal boat. He died unexpectedly, the boat unfinished and our reef foundation purchased the boat from his estate. I hear they were used extensively during WWII since metal was scarce. It just goes against common sense. It will be sunk this spring on our artificial reef.

My brother captained a 55' sailboat made of concrete He did this all over the carribean down to Venezula and back He said it was the best riding hull he has worked on in serious seas (he sailed through a bunch of Tropical Storms and a cat 2 hurricane) He sailed from DR to Costa Rica on a regular basis for 3 years

Isn't there one half submerged at the end of Cape May, N.J. that did one transatlantic crossing before being scuttled?

Ferro cement hulls, good enough for fishing the North Atlantic. There are a few commercial fishing boats here made of the stuff and If you didn't know, you couldn't tell. There's even a few lobster boats made with ferro cement.

Here's a link on someone who built a ferro cement sailboat:

There is one in Cape May---still visible

Do you think a ferro-cement baloon could work?
