Default Funny thing happened this past storm

Just when we thought it was going to be an easy winter. After snow blowing my driveway last night I realized that I was up the creek without a paddle. The snow/ice packed and froze within minutes from being removed to the sides creating a barrier. This kept the rain from draining away from my driveway. It also doesn't help when your driveway slopes down hill. I woke up to water in the garage and an ice skating rink for a driveway (6-8 inched thick with an additional 3-4 inches of water underneath the ice). The vehicles were also stuck in the ice. Talk about a bad day

About an hour ago I could hear my sump pump going and going and so on. The hose close to the drywell had froze and the water wasn't going anywhere! Outside I ventured with a box cutter in my hand to cut the hose above the blockage. With the 1st thrust out spews a gyser hitting me square in the face! Problem solved. Luckily my back yard slopes away from the house, and by now I could probably skate down thru the woods a good distance.

came home to find water pouring through my roof, right into my $1200. sony - toast. .my son grabed his play station and poured about a cup of water out of it. we couldn't try it since the tv is toast, but I'm about --uh, lets see, 100 % sure that's toast too. ah, the joys of winter.

on another note, why is it record breaking cold for weeks ,then have to be 38 degrees when mother nature decides to throw us a N-easter then back down to 10 when it's done?-this rain Ice thing was just nasty.

Had water in my basement yesterday for the first time since that crazy rain two Octobers ago - luckily this time it was minimal. Reminded me that I have to look into a sump pump system asap though - don't want to go thru that BS again, what a pain.

Sweet, I used to live close at Bonnet way back in my college days, every winter the house would get a few feet of water in it. That and the beach club would be overflowed by the pond in the middle of bonnet.

Post - we're just a mile or so north of the Bonnet area - I know it well from college days and lived in the area ever since (about 17 years). Now they shut Bonnet Shores beach down for intermittent periods every summer due to fecal choloform (sp.?) run-off. Really gross, of course there's not a square foot in Bonnet left unbuilt...the land it just too overpopulated and the sh!t has to go somewhere, you know? Too bad, because as you know the coastline is beautiful in that area. We boat out of the Narrow River - just before Narr. beach, remember?

Tommyboy if you want a little hint about your down sloping driveway. Before the storm start put down a layer of rock salt or calcium. It will make a wet barrier that will not freeze. When the storm is done it will take no time for it to dry off.

Good idea. Hopefully I won't need to try it this year. This was an unusual storm. I've never had that happen before.
