Default Marina between Occoquan River / Pohick Bay Area for Boat+Trailer Storage?

Hi guys, I need a marina in the Occoquan River or north Potomac area that has room to store a 16-18ft boat and trailer, with ramps if possible. It seems that there aren't that many in this area, on the Virginia side of the Potomac River?

Thanks!

Occoquan Regional Park, 703-690-2121. Off of route 123, Fairfax County side, just before Occoquan River. They have storage facilities with launch ramp. Probably have a waiting list, but should be some openings coming up this fall. Very long no wake zone to the Potomac.

Pohick Bay Regional Park, 703-339-6104. Storage facilities with ramp. Once again probably waitng list. Does not have a no wake zone, but is also more crowded. Occoquan ramp is usually open, with no crowds. Good luck!

When you call Occoquan, ask for Brian. Tell him where you got his name and number. He.s the one that turned me on to this site. If you get answering machine, go to his voice mail, not the general voice mail. Good luck.

The regional park is absolutely the best bang storage wise for the buck. I'm going on my fourth season now. What was not mentioned is that by storing at the Park, you get free launch privledges. You launch 10 times and the storage is almost free.

There looks to be openings in the lower lot, but its hard to tell as folks will sometimes take boats home or to Harbin Marine (the best boat maintenance in the area) and the spot might be vacant for some time.

What type of storage do they have at the park? Is it covered/indoors, or just an outdoor lot?

Capt John S Beach Marina is another one toward the end of the occoquan river no wake zone. I kept a boat there for a short while a couple years ago. He has covered storage, open storage, slips, fuel, deep ramp, ice, bait, beer, gated access (a lot more than the parks). Very close in price to the parks. The number is 703-339-6726. Price for a 22' boat is about $1000 per year.

Wow, that's really cheap for this area. I'll check them out as well. I'm looking at buying a Key West 1720 CC, or a Boston Whaler Montauk 150 CC. I wanted to know good places to keep it before I jump into something and find out that I don't have a home for my boat...

There are two lots in the State park, both are open lots. I'm in the lower lot and have been there since the start. There are electrical outlets at the base of the light poles and so long as the park workers are there, you can usually bring along an extension cord and use them for such things as polishers, or other power tools. I guess its the luck of the draw as to where you get assigned, although the rangers I have talked and worked with over the years have been very accomodating and really like to get you and your boat in the best slot for ease of storage ie. backing up a 27 foot is a little tougher than a 14 foot jon boat. I just really like the convenience. I can get to the park without using route 1 or worse I95 on a weekend even though I live over by the Ft. Belvoir Engineering Proving grounds. It takes me about 15 to 20 minutes from my front door to have the trailer hooked up and be on my way to the park ramp, or out to I95 if I want to go to Annapolis.

Three weeks ago, I found I was in the Chesapeke Bay almost quicker than I could be in the middle of the Potomac. I had hooked up, was on the road and 55 minutes later was at Sandy Point, where it took about 5 minutes to be in the Bay. It can take you 35 to 45 minutes of "No Wake" to get to the channel marker in the Potomac...

Something to think about.
