Default Any area divers?

I know the bay is not the best place to dive at the moment but are there are good wrecks in the annapolis area?

If you're willing to travel a little, there's a German U-Boat sitting on the bottom of the lower Potomac just off Piney Point a few miles up from St. Mary's River.

What kind of visibility to you get in the Bay and it's tributaries? I would guess that it is especially bad during the summer months.

It starts to clear up in the fall. Maybe you can catch some good days before the water gets too cold.

There are some good wrecks in the bay, but they are covered in silt and the visibility in the vicinity is awful. You also generally have a lot of current. Oh, yeah -- there are tons of monofilament and nets around too!

I don't dive the bay, but if you are interested in giving it a try, look up 27SAILFISH on tidalfish.com. He does dive the bay (though a lot of it is semi-commercial).

You might want to get a book "Shipwrecks on the Chesapeake" by Donald Shomette. It is not a diving book (like Gary Gentiles') but it does describe most of the wrecks and there are a few specific diving stories included.

Regards,
TED

Me and my buddy used to dive in the bay a few years ago. We decided to stop hunting for the wrecks and only dive in the fall for oysters. Oysters, crabs and beer...the start of a great party.
