Default Magothy River

I went out after work yesterday for an evening cruise and dip in the water. The water in front of my in-laws house was 96 degrees. Sweet Jesus I thought! I went back in a cove bind Gibson Island for a swim to cool down a bit, yeah right. The water was 93.6 degrees. Will this high water temps kill rockfishing? I am planning on going out on tomorrow (Friday August 4th, 2006).

Maybe we'll just have to go deeper. I hope.

that is insane. i was offshore yesterday and the surface temp was 81, and we weren't in the stream.

those elevated temps will lower the dissolved oxygen content of the water, making it hard to fish to get enough O2, especially after expending the energy and the stress of being caught. if you do fish for rockfish, bring them in quickly and get them back in the water quickly to reduce killing of your throwbacks.

i am not preaching, so nobody take offense to this, i just thought that i would put out some helpful information.

I agree with you and no offence taken. I handle my fish very carefully. Circle hooks 100% and I only grab the fist by the lip giving it minimum exposure to my hands that way most of its protective slime layer stays on. Most of the time, (not to brag) we do not have many throw backs so I am hoping that'll be the case tomorrow. We'll see.

I have been out in that cove behind Gibson ISland all season and in the water. I have not seen a single seanettle yet. Up in some of the creeks I've seen em but not in the cove. I'll be out there Saturday as well. Get them silver bullets ice cold!
