Use byowneryachts. I sold my Pro-line 2950 through him. All the broker services (advertising, paper work, tire kicker phone calls, etc.) except you have to show your own boat. He charges like 3% vs the full broker 10%. You save 7% just to show your own boat. Jim and Beth are the best too. See here:

Try Ryan White at MarineConcepts. Almost bought a boat from him, was a good guy.

Thanks for the plug B-Faithful. We don't have representation in your area so we can't do our MLS program for you, but you might try Virginia Yacht Brokers. I think they are nearby and seem to have a pretty abundant advertising budget. Good luck!

Whitehall, we advertise more than most yacht brokerage companies. Since we have boats listed nationally our laundry list of magazines is long. In Annapolis you can see us in Yacht Trader, Sounders, Boat Shopper consistently, and sometimes Spinsheet, Salty Dog and Noreaster.

Jim,

I always see your ads in Boat Shopper and Salty Dog. When I listed with you, I also noticed that my boat was then listed on line as well on your site and Boattraderonline.

Thanks for the help with the sale and 7% you saved me!!

Since we have boats listed nationally .
You have boats listed nationally but do not have representation in Hampton, VA four hours from here. That doesn't make any sense. For your csutomers that you do a full MLS listing for 10%, do you have an office or dock space at a marina where prospects can come view your listings? Or do you just work out of your home?

B-

I see you sidestepped my original question-how long did it take to sell the boat with this 3% company? i want to know what I get for 3%.

I just cannot remember when exactly I listed my boat with him. it was over a year ago. I am pretty sure I listed it with him officially in late winter/early spring and the sale was completed and funds transferred after survey, sea trial, etc in June. I guess it was around 3-4 mos (cannot remember exactly). Up until then I had been trying to sell it myself. I listed in the winter sometime (maybe Dec). Because I set the price, I did have to drop the price one time to get more interest. Jim did provide me with a list of comps that were currently listed and had recently sold for me to make an educated decision. As you know selling a boat has a lot to do with the price. I could have probably sold it more quickly if I wanted to give the boat away. However, a combination of patience, pricing, and advertising will allow a seller to get his best dollar.

You ask what I got for my 3%...
1. Advertising-- Just running ads in the Captial alone was running me over $100 a pop (their rates are high for items over 50k). Advertising yourself can get very expensive. His advertising also reaches a national audience.
2. Information- Jim provided me with a lot of information. ie. what other comps were being listed at, what others have sold for over the last year, values, etc.
3. Intial contact- Jim took all the original phone calls and answered what he could. He would contact me when he couldnt answer a question. If the buyer was serious, he then would referr them directly to me. He eliminated most tire kickers.
4. Paperwork- Jim's wife Beth handled ALL the paper work for me. She made sure that title transfer went well. Worked with the owner with his paperwork. Held the deposit in escrow until survey/sea trial was complete. etc. Gave me confidence the the deal was done right and legally binding.

For 3% I think you get a lot. Just me but I will use him again.

BTW, Jim does have an office in Eastport. You can walk in his office at anytime. Jim does offer a full MLS service in areas where he has offices.

What is the average time it takes you to sell a boat under your full MLS program Whitehall? (based on your previous posts, it doesnt take much to figure out you are a broker)

Whitehall, many brokers will take MLS listings in markets where they do not have representation. Since this is a dis-service to the customer we will not accept MLS listings (10% Commission) unless we have a representative broker in that area. Along those same lines we will not do open listings. We do not have an office in Hampton Roads, our closest is Annapolis, the next one South is in the Hilton Head area. To give you an idea of what we feel is a realistic radius for providing outstanding customer service our Annapolis Branch will not accept MLS listings below Deale or above Baltimore on the Bay. We do have our Flex Plan (3% commission) for all the areas we do not serve in an MLS capacity, such as Hampton Roads. We have Flex Plan boats listed all around the country. I call that National but what do I know. I'm sure within a year or two we will have a rep in Hampton as well as most other major markets and can do our MLS program. I see you are in Annapolis, feel free to stop by our office anytime to say hi.

Hi Paul, I do see you in our queu for a free evaluation. We get to those as time permits. There was a follow up email about the term of the agreement, that will get answered when you eval goes out. The term is 6 months. No inquiries about our 3% deal though. Feel free to ask me any questions about it.
