We splashed and came from greenbackville without a problem. Between mechanic, trucking, canvas and marina bill I am now broke and busted. Heard that Mojo got a 160 Mako on saturday. Work permitting we may run saturday. Have bait will travel. Later mark
Well Retriever broke the cherry for Steve Perry. Been Mako skunked for years. Caught two jumpers in one day. Boy was he beaming. We fished Bahia and weighed a 138. Not good enough for money but good eating.
This coming weekend is Captain Steve's Mako event in Chincoteague Va. It's a low key, low entrants fee, Island bragging rights event that should be fun. Hope some of you can support the shops efforts. We'll be there probably Friday-Sunday weather permitting.
Who is fishing OC Sharkers next weekend? Boats will be able to run from Chincoteague, we'll be a committee boat again this year.
Lady B out of CI got a nice Mako on Sunday fishing somewhat inshore. We were deep and only got Blue sharks. Tail wrapped a 200lber, thought we had a nice thresher. Quite a let down to see mr blueshark. Maybe next time. Hope to see you guys out this weekend. Mark
I understand from Donna at Capt Bob's the fishing has been great this season, especially the large flounder.
Wish we could get out there to try it. Hope Capt Steve's Mako event goes well, we stopped by there the last time we were down, they had been fishing and had some of their catch fried for lunch, they even shared with us. Great people! Love to stop by his store whenever we can and talk with him and his sons. They are always willing to share the latest fishing news and hints.
The Retriever crew fished friday and sunday this weekend. Friday we set up and moved four times before settling in on the 30 line. Hooked and released four brown-dusky whatevers in the 100-125 range, one Mako around 75 and kept a second Mako that we thought was 100lb( Minimum weight for Captain Steve's) Fished scaled at 97. Saturday forecast was snotty so we worked on the boat and and did the 2nd S thing in town. Robosurfer was playing and they are great musicians. Sunday forecast was not bad buty never materialized. NWS are liars!Started shallow, no temps, moved to 30 no temp breaks, moved to the land of "TOOTS" and had 65 to 66. Fished for four hours on a quick drift. Hooked and released a huge 10-12' Hammerhead that was a bull. Trip home was a pounder. Could not even begin to follow a heading to within 40* for the first 20 miles. Lost windsheild wipers mid way compounding problems. Passed a 24 albie I beleive Terpheel? on way in. They must have trolled the hole way in?? Best speed we could get at heading was 12 knots, off heading 17 to 19. 4.5 hours latter and home we were. Fishing OC sharkers this weekend if the tropical behaves. If not, US National Motocross is at Buds Creek Md on sunday. Plan B. Later Mark
Hey Mark we were out there on the Outlaw III. As Keith prolly told you we were heading to the Washington, well gee that just didnt happen. We heard you calling us but when we called back no response. We ended up getting to the parking lot and calling off the trip. So we trolled for a little white trying to get some bluefish for the guys we had on the boat. I think my back still is sore from the ride home, what an expensive waste of time. If the weather looks good this weekend I will be fishing in Hatteras.
Went out Saturday..............what a mistake. Not a bad ride out to the Monroe but once there other boats on top of her and we could not anchor or stay in any position because of the wind and seas. The ride back was a slow one. One positive...........the boat ran great.
We were occasionally hearing you guys but drifting with the wave action makes comunication tough. I beleive it was a wooping for all boats from CI. Maybe better this week. Greg, thought you might have ventured saturday but was too preocupied with boat, wife dogs etc. See you this weekend. mark
We fished Friday and Saturday for Mako. Fished the 30 both days. Lost a very large Mako on Friday. Kept a smaller fish of 125 lbs (by the charts) on saturday. The tuna boys were having a field day. The 50 was hot if you beleive the radio fish. Saw a mess of flags, evidently YFT to 50. Somebody on Jackspot reproted a small YFT and Wachapreague boys were saying the 26MH had short BFT. ( These were all radio fish, not visually confirmed). Will be back in action on the 30th for ??????????. Still have a few hundred pounds of chum so maybe shark/ tuna combo is in order. Later mark
The flounder fishing in the bay and channels was horrible. You'd be lucky if you caught anything over 15 inches. The fishing has dried up the last few years.
Who is going this weekend? Mako still at the 30 as is evidenced by JJ Toy 224 lber on Friday while trolling a GM. Tuna seem to be all around. I plan on at least one day shark/tuna chunk with Kieth M and maybe JJ. Keith needs some help to get Zoe Girl splashed so I have volunteered to assist this weekend as well. He is a great mechanic, I am the grunt. He is always there for my problems so I will return the numerous favors. We all have a place in the scheme of things. Greg are you around through tuesday? Give me a holler. My skiff is back in action so look out mr clam. I'm coming! Mark
