Default Ches Bay Fly fishing boat

I'm a flyfisherman who knows very little about boats but am now in the market for a used craft that can handle the Chesapeake Bay. From my preliminary research, it appears as if a 21-24 foot center console boat is recommended. Beyond that, I am clueless. Can someone assist with some advice?

Welcome to THT. A center console without a top would probably be a good choice. If you've spent time on the Bay, you know that the chop can be brutal and the weather can turn on you quickly, so the bigger the boat, the better. A popular boat with the local light tackle/fly fishing guides is the Parker line. IMO, a boat like this would be a good choice: http://www.parkerboats.net/pages/boa...l.jsp?boatid=2

The Annapolis boat show is this weekend & would be a good place for ideas

Being a light tackle / fly guide on the Bay I have done alot of research before selecting the Parker 23SE. I have it powered by a Yamaha F225 which has plenty of power and speed. The layout is open and the cleats are recessed. No raised platform so clients and guests feel secure when casting from the front or back. Currently I don't have a Tee top but this is the first boat without one. Let me just say I am adding one this winter. I think the differences between the 21 and 23 are significant to warrant the larger craft. Takes a little differ ant boat handling then most craft as you need to press the bow more into the waves to allow the sharper angle slice the wave. Very nice ride under all but lousy conditions even today it was doable in the Upper Bay. My boat has fished the Susky Flats, Upper Middle and Lower Bay, the CBBT, and Offshore for Tuna. For ME the most versatile boat I have ever owned. Please don't hesitate to call for a test ride or any questions. Capt Skip 410-746-6907

Most of the fly fishing guides that I see on the Susky flats during C&R have Parkers like Capt Skip or Jones Bros CC's.

Not familair with the Shanty. Mine lives behind my F250. Mostly fish the Susky Flats in spring, Mid Bay during the summer then the CBBT during the winter. BUt thats what I love about the Parker I can go anywhere. Its been 60 offshore and in 1' of water off Smith island. See you out there somewhere. Ifd you want a test ride let me know.
