Default Visiting Annapolis

When we were down for the raft up, it became evident that there is a pretty extensive water taxi service available in Annapolis. Unfortunately, there is little information on the service on the web (other than to call on 68). It appears to concentrate on Back Creek and Spa Creek. What I am wondering is how (and where) you secure your boat to make use of the taxi. Do you simply anchor in the creek and call in or are there designated areas where you can and can't anchor?

The reason that I am asking is that I have a nephew at West Point who is coming down to visit in mid-October and I thought it might be fun to take him to Annopolis by boat. Of course, he would be arriving on the weekend of the US Powerboat Show which probably makes that a bad idea ...

Thanks for your responses...

Ted - There are about 20 slips in "Ego Alley" downtown which you pay for by the hour. During the fall you will have no problem getting a slip. You can also tie up to the moorings in the designated area in the harbor & call the water taxi. You can contact them by VHF or call 410-526-1800. Don't bring your boat to Annapolis during the time when the 2 shows are there. You might consider another desination (Baltimore, Fells Point, etc) due to the timing of the visit

A West Point guy in Annapolis, he better bring his M16. If youmust come during the boat show you can anchor off the Naval Academywhere the other 200 boats are anchored and get a water taxi in noproblemo.

He's been there before for the Game... Oh, no, they play that in Philly, don't they !

Thanks for the tip on anchoring off the naval academy. Do they have shore batteries? (Can't be too careful when carrying the army !) I assume I just call up the water taxi on Channel 68 and tell them I'm one of the 200 boats anchored off the academy?

Thanks,
TED

You got it! You might have to describe to them a little bit what you look like but they'll find you. You might call them before anchoring to make sure you don't anchor too far away.

Oh, sure, I understand: "Hello water taxi? I'm one of the 54 white hulled center console fishermen off the academy, could you come and pick me up ?"

Of course I could agree to identify myself more uniquely. I've been sort of wondering what one does with all those flares and rockets just before they reach their "use by" date. Now I know: they become water taxi signals !

Many thanks!
