Default Wahoo Boats and comparable 17' bay boats

I've been researching for my next boat purchase and would like some input on Wahoo boats preferabily around the 17-18 foot size.
I'd mainly be using in the lower chesapeake bay, inshore and rivers.
I'm trying to stay with a slightly smaller boat that can handle like a larger boat without killing my wallet. I know I know. I'm asking alot there but any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

My buddy Brent is selling his Wahoo 16. It's a very good shallow water/beach type boat. He uses it mainly in the Rappahannock but takes it down to Nags Head every once in a while. The boat is very good on gas as it is light and shallow drafted. Because of the modified V it's very stable while drifting, but for the same reason gives you a little pounding once the water gets big (as compared to my Mako).

Here's the long and short:

VERY low hour 2000 Johnson 70hp, Navman fishfinder, Magellan color chartplotter, Uniden DSC VHF w/ 8' antenna, Jensen CD/AM/FM w/ speakers, auto bilge pumps, dual batteries, etc etc etc.

If you are interested I'll get you his number.

Otherwise, since you are looking for something that handles larger, I highly recommend a classic Mako (like mine!). Another friend with a Montauk 17 recently commented that he thought my boat was no smaller than 19'. It really does carry itself as a larger boat.

Check out SeaMark, I think Haynes in Mechanichsville sells them, my neighbor bought one and its a pretty nice knockoff of the Whaler Montauk.

It probably is a good knockoff, but for re-sale purposes ought to get a Montauk. You could but a 10 year old one, keep it for 5 years and sell it for what you paid for it.
