In May/June/July I love to hit the Jackspot for some blues and then use them as bait for Makos at the fingers. Any of the lumps on the 20 & 30 fathom lines may hold fish in the summer. Mahi, Tuna, Blues & Shark.
In the fall I fish the inlet for Stripers & White Shad if they are running.

I don't have a trolling setup and can only fish while drifting or anchored. Boats not really made for fishing to begin with. OK, showing my ignorance here, whats a 20 fathom line?

These are the lines of drop offs as you leave the coast and head toward the canyons or edge of continental shelf. As you progress east from ocean city the lines signify depths 20 fathoms 40 fathoms 60 fathoms etc. I believe a fathom is two feet.

Tubby - A fathom is 6'. Maybe all of those 35" stripers you have been reporting are really 53". Melnic - Try flounder fishing in Assowoman bay at edges of the channel (don't anchor in the channel like the renters do) & the Thorofare (get an OC map).

Melnic,
Bayside you don't need to troll, just drift with the rest of the boats, and don't anchor or another boat might plow into you while he's looking the other way fishing. If the tide is strong, it can be tough to get your anchor off the bottom.
Happy fishing!!

Someone mentioned the Rt 90 bridge was good on the Eastern span. I'd anchor then right?

Yes, you can anchor at the Rt. 90 bridge. The north side tends to be the best side.

Look for a dock or area that is well lit at night, you can catch all kinds of fish at once under the lights. Look for weakies & snapper blues to show up in June.

I took my boat to OC this year, and rented where we had dock priviledges. That was great, but fishing was a bust. We tried all kinds of bait, and both anchored and drifted just to the north side of the 90 bridge, but didn't get a single bite. Best we could do was a snagged crab. Most fishing was done at High tide when it started the ebb, and one of the locals told me that this used to be the best, but for some reason, the opposite was taking place this year. He said to try Low tide when it starts to come back in... Good luck.

I dont know how far you can go offshore? I have a 2550 May Craft PH and I dont venture way out but on a calm day I hit the 878 acre reef its about 10 miles out of the inlet a 25-30 min run. Catch a little bit of everything . Some of the head boats hit this spot. We catch Sea Bass ,triggerfish, blues, kings etc. This area is usaully 10-15 fathoms. You can find some coordinates for this and other wreck, reefs and some info for OC fishing at www.daybreakfishing.com. Would be wise to have a chart & know how to plot. Would suck a little if a GPS cheesed out. You can always head 270 to get your feet dry.

Thanks for the site CB.
I ended up joining the reef foundation. They are sending me GPS coordinates for sites of wrecks.
A neighbor took me out to a wreck 5 miles out 2 weeks ago. Caught 30 sea bass. about half were keepers. Also caught a triggerfish. Last week we hung out in front of Assateague just to the south of the OC south jetty. Kids were nailing croaker. I heard that drifting on the bay side was a bit hit and miss past few weeks. I also think some people are getting out too late. Last saturday we headed out at 8:30am to the inlet and there was very few on the bay. Returned to ramp at 11 and then everyone was out.

try hitting the inlet at night using live eel's in the later month's, also hooking up some live spot seems to work really well, also try throwing some sppons suck as kast masters near and in the marinas, i always pull out some type of fish this way, this is all happening at asitique and the inlet, that is where my best luck is found
