Default They're On The Move

Stripers caught near the Green Can this week! Going after them this weekend... might run into some crappy weather.

Can I hope to have a shot at em - don't take delivery on my new boat until 4/15/05? Looking to launch at Leesylvania State Park - any tips on Striper hunting in that area (Potomac/Occoquan Bay)?

Conch,
There are fish to be had in that area and the actual season starts on APril 16. The best thing to do is Google the Potomac RIver Anglers Club, register for free and askaway. There are many people that fish all different parts of the river that can help you out. The best striper fishing will be downriver from you, yearround that is. Good Luck and see you there!

Ben the Green Can (buoy) is right off Cape Henry in Va Beach! Some of these fish will migrate north, while others will enter the Chesapake Bay>
The water temperature last weekend was averaging aboout 47 degrees.

Conch, ditto on PRAC. We're normally a pretty friendly and helpful bunch, barring one or two that are having cabin fever right now.

Except for during the spawn, you are probably a little further north than people normally troll for rockfish, but you might get some LTJ action in spots. Try river points with grass in the early morning or late afternoon.

Come below the Nice (301) bridge and your odds will improve

CONCH , Potomac River Fish Comm. seasons (keep) (for Va. to.) april 16 "below " 301 bridge (way south) of Leesylvania.
keeper season for the area your speaking of (Leesylvania) is May 16 - 12/31 '05 below W.W. bridge
see http://www.prfs.state.va.u.. this has the seasons & size/creel limits. You can print out to keep on the boat. I fish there alot in spring. Expressed now is catch & relaese, use circle hooks, mash down the barb on 'em (this is to protect the future for us all )I'll start catfish'en that area this weekend If I dont go to the James(much bigger cats!) I may chase stripers in another week, once the word is out
below 301 bridge. good luck !

Many thanks for the helpful info, will definitely look into the suggestions provided. I'm a native of the Florida Keys, so this type of fishing is completely new to me, but will gladly accept the challenge! Thanks again...
