Default Chincoteague - Boat Partner

New to boat ownership. I recently bought a 23 Whaler, single screw and was looking to do some offshore fishing this season. Anyone interested in "partnering up" please let me know. I would feel much more comfortable offshore knowing I could rely on another boat if I needed it, or providing assistance to another as well. Been visiting Chincoteague for years, finally bought a place and now I finally have the opportunity to do some offshore fishing! Looking forward to the adventure! Looking for a little education on when seasons hit for specific species etc. in that area. Any experience and knowledge shared would be greatly appreciated.

I believe John Rogers over on Tidalfish fishes the Chincoteague area regularly. Check out the "Chesapeake" as well as the "Offshore" boards at http://www.tidalfish.com/boards2/ and post a note asking for people frequenting that area.

Good luck!

We would be glad to give you a hand. Which side of the island would you venture from? Most weekends starting in early May we run, starting with Mako. Glad to help you. Mark aka retriever

Yeap I fish out of there a lot with a friend. If you go to www.daybreakfishing.com theres a lot of good info about fishing offshore. This is the guy I fish with almost every weekend that the weather allows. basically in the mid may into June we fish for makos and bluefish and then june the BFT start coming in and usally by end of june july Yft fishing and of course dolphin, Fat alberts, skippys, marlin. Later in the year you can get a few wahoo. usally by the beging of July alot of people will start chunking at the lumps. Cathing BFT and some YFT. Good luck. If you have any qustions I will try to help you out.

Mark,

I would be putting in from Memorial park. Mako sounds pretty exciting, I wouldn't mind running my boat out along with you. If that sounds ok with you let me know. My email is bradhutchinson@comcast.net.

John,

Thanks for the info., pretty informative site. Sounds like some good fishing opportunities to be had. It's been a long winter waiting to run the boat. I bought it in October, and basically took a 45 minute sea trial. Can not wait until Spring.

Thanks

Memorial park can be a a bitch at times, be careful. I'll pass right by you on the way out. You're more than welcome to tag along. Stay in touch. Visited the boat this weekend and all is well. Headed to the shop for repairs saturday, out the following week. Ready for me to tinker with electronics and such when the weather warms. There are quite a few guys who trailer to Chincoteague that talk on this board. All would be receptive to landing a hand. Look at introductions. Later, mark

If you are putting your boat in and taking it out the same day I would use the ramps Curtis Merrit. It is a much easier run to the Inlet then Memorial park. One turn and your in the deep water channel. Plus there is a pretty good fishing cleaning station and an area to wash the boat down.

Hutchinson01
There are a bunch of us trailer boater from Frederick, MD that are down there offshore fishing most of the year - End of June on for Tuna and earlier for shark. We leave them in for the weekend at capt bob's since it has been dredged - like $14 night which includes ramp. You are more than welcome and looking forward to fishing with some of the other guys like otsunshine as well. Craig on Daybreak is a great guy as well.

Hey Guys, don't mean to jump in, but I am somewhat new to the waters up here! Over the years I have fished off shore on my boat out of Oregon Inlet, NC and Virginia Beach, VA. I trailer a new 30' boat which after this month will be back here in DE! It would be nice to meet other anglers who would not mind additonial / responsible and knowledgable fisherman to tag along off shore. Always willing to take out other fisherman as well!
Boat is fully rigged with offshore tackle and electronics. As the season nears I can be reached via email richarddkemp@aol.com
I will be keeping an eye out on this site!
Tight Lines!!!!!

Pellicot,

I would look forward to teaming up! Hey I like the Hydra Sport, sweet looking boat, I wish I had the twins also. I have been corresponding a little with Daybreak on his site. Sounds like good people; he has been real helpful on alot of my of my questions.; I can't wait until Spring! My email is bradhutchinson@comcast.net . I'll keep an eye on this forum, so as the time draws near, we can make definite arrangements. Thanks for the hospitality, I guess we'll be talking. I saw a nice Mako daybreak caught on his site, and now I definitely got the fever! Ready to go!

Best Regards,
Brad

Richard,

Sounds like that 30 is ready to go! I just bought my boat this year, I've got the basics. GPS, Fishfinder and VHS. I am going to run it this year and try to decide how to set her up. I want the following: Kicker, Radar, outriggers, possibly downriggers, and would like to canvas off my T-Top. It's not going to happen the first season, I will probably prioritize safety items first. But... it's going to be fun figuring out what will be next! Sounds like you got yours set up nice, look forward to seeing it.

It might be a good idea for the new guys to post on the introductions page of this region. That way your info would be easily assesable without trying to remember this particular post. Just a thought. Mark

hutchinson01,
I reside in Middletown, New Castle County! It's killing me livng this far from the ocean.... have boat will travel though! A new boat is always a work in progress.. I did not have a radar rigged on my boat as of yet..... I would recommend one though if you plan an overnight or a day trip where you get a sudden air temperature change. I have been caught in fog offshore and it is nothing to take for granted! Keep in touch, I have already had contact with another angler out of Indian River who saw this site!
