Not too suprising, the Potomac is pretty friggin wide off Point Lookout and no different from the Bay. I bet if you spoke to the Pound Netters they could tell you about a lot of big stuff in their nets. Not sure why this is newsworthy; radio stations picked this up and were all over it.
If I'm not mistaken, bull sharks are pretty common in the bay and that part of the potomac. For some reason, they can handle our brackish water better then other sharks.

They can actually travel hundreds of miles up fresh water rivers, and do so all over the world. I hate those things!
I was under the impression that they were relatively rare? The Bay isn't exactly clear, but I don't ever hear of people's fish getting bit off when they're reeling it in. If there were more of them in the Bay, you would think that you'd hear more about that sort of thing.
My friend was fishing on the Cape last week, and got his Striper taken off by a Great White:

I really want to target the Bulls in the Chessie, just for kicks and pullage.
I like getting the big Sand Tigers (9-10 foot) on the shore at Assateague, we kayak out the baits and set up the 15/0 Penns on the beach. Great fun and serious pullage.
Anyone heard of a location on the Chessie where they may be found?
Other than Cornfield Harbor, LOL!
I know years ago they used to chase the Cow-nose Rays up in the creek behind Solomons every evening and trash them, but haven't for years.
My plan is to get then beside the boat, take a few pictures, then release.
They will NOT be brought in the boat or raised at all.
I know they are very mean critters....
Speaking as one who lives off the lower Bay, this kinda sucks. You hear about them entering fresh water rivers etc. in other areas and I always knew they were probably here but...
According to some of the news reports I've seen, this is the first time anyone has reported catching a Bull shark in that area since the mid 70s, there was also another one caught on the same day 5 miles away.
It could be a good thing the swimming season is ending soon
