Some marinas are "resorts" with showers, tennis courts, pools, clubhouse, etc. and some are just a place to tie up the boat. It is important to decide what you want or need when comparing prices.
Slip includes clean, A/C bathhouses, pool, laundry, captain's lounge. Cable TV, dockboxes, wireless internet access also available. Fuel dock (ValvTect Premium Marine fuel) and Ship's Store on premises.
Slips range from $1400 for a 28' open slip to $4000 for a 70' open slip and from $1950 for an 11'x45' covered slip to $2650 for a 16'x45' covered slip.
My 24' Osprey lives in a slip at Harbour Cove Marina in Deale with water and electric (separately metered from BG&E) for about $1,800 a year including storage of a big trailer. The facility has an air conditioned clubhouse with a TV and pool table for rainy days, clean bathrooms and showers, a small swimming pool, and excellent security. Several mechanics work full-time, and the staff is exceptionally customer-oriented. The facility as a whole is clean and neat, and I don't get the willies spending the night on my boat.
You get what you pay for.
Another factor is location. I have to pass under a fixed bridge with a 14' clearance to get to the bay, so there are no sailboats on my end of Rockhold Creek. I love sailboats but detest the constant banging of halyards on aluminum masts all night long.
Many of the boaters at Harbour Cove fish, so we exchange information constantly.
Moral: take everything into consideration.
In addition to slips, there is a new boatel under construction.
$1,100 annual at Middle Branch Marina in Baltimore (Patapsco/Middle Branch) for 23' boat/25' slip, includes electric, water & winter storage. Also includes bathroom facilities and almost reasonable fuel prices. Wobbly finger piers, loose planks and extra bird poop included at no extra cost.
OK. I just got my Slip Dockage Contract for 4/1/2005 - 3/31/2006. For a 22' foot outboard I am paying $2,255. Its not a fancy marina. Its a clean Boatyard. No fancy "amenities" - just showers, etc. Sounds like I am paying more than some but less than others. I guess that's just like life - eh??
Thanks for all your inputs. Good boating to you all!!

I was up to $3400 for a 30' slip, for 12 mo's at Jabin's Yacht Yard in Annapolis 2 seasons ago Of course haul out and land storage were additional. A nice yard and convenient at the time, but I thought pretty pricey.
