Default Need Boating Mentor, I Will cover some expenses

Hello,

I am looking to accompany sombody for offshore fishing on the weekends and in the process learn the basics of operating a power boat and also learn how to catch fish.
I have never been out on the sea in a boat !

I am willing to pay $100 for a trip to an experienced boater / fisherman. I live in Nothern VA, and I am willing to drive up to 100 miles. Hope some body will help.

I would like to learn the basics of navigation.
How to load a boat in a trailer.
How to saftley launch a boat.
How to operate a VHF radio.
Etc

Thank You.

hey george - head over to tidalfish - http://www.tidalfish.com/forums/ and check out the mid-atlantic offshore angler forum.

you want to either respond to a post that says "LOOKING FOR A HO" or create your own post that says "LOOKING TO HO".

something like this thread: http://www.tidalfish.com/forums/mid-...-2-friday.html

a "HO" is a hands-onboard.

you need to be careful about "paying" the captain for the trip. there are laws that could potentially classify that situation as an unlicensed charter...and apparently the USCG has been cracking down on those this year.

as long as you volunteer to help cover expenses, that's OK. that captain cannot make paying, or even covering expenses, a condition for bringing you along.

there's some good folks over at tidalfish that enjoy bringing HOs along. good luck.
