Default Tangier Island Visit?

My family has been pressing me to take them to Tangier Island for a meal and a brief look around. Anyone have any recent experience with a Tangier visit? Is the food any good, are the marinas secure, etc.

Take a baseball bat. The mosquitoes are the size of footballs.

I'm at Tangier 1x/week. Food is great at any of the 3 major resturants. Mosquitoes are no problem at all. You'll need to dock at the private harbor..... cost is about $10. Great place to visit.

But you can't go there unless you are from the Eastern Shore. If you must cross the Main Shipping Channel to get there, you aren't allowed into the harbor

Google is a search engine. People who take the time to share their relevant personal experiences could be considered friends.

Thanks Chrisrack!

Theres a cruize that leaves out of Reedville a couple times a day. I rode it last year, with my heart set on a cold beer and a soft crab sandwich. I got neither, the island is dry and was sold out out of soft crabs that day. There will be golf carts waiting to wisk you away to tour the island. It's a pretty neat place and worth a look. BYOB

There is a WORLD of difference between Tangier Island with the cruise boat in port , and without it in port! Plan your trip to avoid the cruise boat. You'll see the real Tangier, appreciate the quiet, and overall you'll enjoy your visit much more.

If you can go by boat it's a great trip. We went down from Annapolis, 90 miles, hit bad weather. Probably too much for one day. Docked in Parks marina, and stayed at a bed and breakfast. Rented a golf cart to get around the island. It's like going back in time. full day is plenty. It's almost like your not in the US. Just suck in the ambiance. From there we went to Crisfield for a night, then back to Annapolis.

Good food at the reataurants, interesting people, all waterman. It's a dying island, enjoy it now

Thanks to all for sharing your experiences at Tangier. Do you think Fall would be an OK time of year to visit?
