Default Sandy Point State Park

Is this a good place to put in and do some fishing?

I don't know about the fishing, but I do know that's one heck of a lot of boat ramps.

I have to think with that many ramps and parking slots, Sandy Point likely gets REAL busy. Best put in and haul out early.

Great place! traffic can be tough on the weekends. Get there early. rarely a wait for a ramp. decent fishing on resident stripers.

I think this spot is one of the best on the bay. Go south of the bridges and get some spot (Dollys Lump)and then live line them at the bridge. Good luck, Bob

you could also hang a left out coming out of SPSP and head north just a bit to fish podickery point for spot as well.

if you haven't already checked out tidalfish to find out where the bite is, well...you probably should. you can also stop in angler's (http://www.anglerssportcenter.com/) off of rt. 50 eastbound for bait and see if they have any intel for you.

guys at my marina have been catching (albeit mostly smallish stripers) north of the bridge as well, chumming around the lumps near b-more light and love point. if you're heading out real early or coming back in around sunset, make sure you have a rod or two rigged with a surface lure. the shallows around the mouth of the magothy near gibson island have been drawing some keeper-sized stripers to feed during those times.

i also understand the chesapeake piranhas AKA snapper blues are out in force...which always makes things fun.

Make sure you lock up everything. There have been numerous reports of thefts in Sandy Pt. It's a great place to launch and is a real convenient location, but watch your "Stuff".

Remember - out of sight, out of mind.

We left out out of DC arround 9am and arrived at Sandy Point, just after 10am. There was no wait at the ramp.

The park gives active duty military free entrance, so we saved $5.

The security must have been improved, because there were several trucks patrolling (state police and wildlife/park rangers). We picked up or 5 day lisence at the marina store and headed out through the channel and stopped under the bridge.

We fished there a bit, but numerous boats would blow past you and it was already rough enough.

We decided to check out the inner harbour, so we made the trip there and then returned. It was pretty rough on the bay, so it was a slow go.

Here are a few pictures.
