Default Upper Bay - Sassafras & Turkey Point - fishing now?

I run out of the Sassafras River and like to fish but never learned how to take it to the next level. I'll take my whaler out the river and drop some blood worms, etc near Loyds - or go across to flats and have been trying to leanr where or how they 'fish the flats'. I typically follow the south west channel off aberdeen and fish it and work my way to those 3 islands off port deposit... anyway - I'm not not asking for fishing 101 thru 199 in fishing lessons but if you want to go for stripers - I assume it's too late now but in Spring and Fall? _h head out to bay and look for birds? then what do you throw into the water - a jig? Now bait - just artificial?

A 2nd question would be - if you troll - what would work best... I hear about these ubmrella rigs but to me - when I reel it in, having some huge contraption hanging off my reel tip.... 1 line, 1 hook, seems simple... but then again - the stripers I catch on the river are 15" and less so...... any input or help appreciated....

I assume you are looking for stripers?
go out of the sass & make a left -south-. There are pleny of rips, humps & bumps just off of Whorton point that hold fish. Then you can work your way further south to Hodges bar, 7' knoll & all of the other structure in the area. The most producive area can be at Love Point. Alot of boats will be chumming around those parts & a steady pick of rock can be had.

Moving water is 100% important.
Jiggin is productive. Stingsilvers, sassy shads, bass assisains...
Topwater plugs will work.
Birds will lead you to fish as well. bluefish tend to stay on top, the rock will be below them with the biggest rock hanging down current from the blitz. They are lazy & wait for the pickings to come to them.

The flats & TP area will get to hot for a steady rockfish bite in the summer.

A dry summer will bring all sorts of fish to TP in the fall. Blues, flounder, rock....
