Default Offshore fishing in Delaware advice

I am thinking about possibly trying some offshore fishing this year. How far would you suggest going with a 23' wa with a 200hp outboard? Also what can i find as far as fish in that distance range?
Any help would be great.

Weather and winds are your main concern, i have a 23 footer and have been out 65 miles chaseing blue water fish on calm days. Been to the triangles [30 mi] for sea bass and togs on calm days. Can't say those days have stayed calm though, as we all know the weather man is usually wrong about 99% of the time so allow yourself plenty of time to get back in-, in case she blow's up on yu. Best bet, if you trailer run on down to hatteras and put over at teaches , the run out to the gulf stream is only 22 mi; much safer for a offshore adventure than to run out of va. Plus their is tons of structre to fish down that way. good luck.

I should have been more specific. I am talking outside the Indian river inlet.

Is the fishing at B bouy any good? would that be a suggested run for a 23'?

Pick your days carefully and maintain your boat with no short cuts.......strong batts, clean fuel sep......etc.......you can make Massey's canyon for pelagics.....and other spots as well......run with a buddy until you are comfortable.

No, no stripers at B-Bouy. You will find plenty of small sea bass, skates, sea robbins, the occasional spiny dogfish and ling cod, plenty of croakers (later in the season) and just enough flounder to keep it interesting. There are thresher sharks cruising the area right now if you want to rig for them.

B-Bouy in 23 wa is should be no problem given the proper forecast and conditions. It is only ten miles from the IR Inlet and when you get to the grounds there will be scores of other boats around you. This all assumes your boat is in proper working order. Judging by you question, b-bouy is about as far as I would go until you get more comfortable with you and your boat's capabilities. Good luck and good fishing.

Illegal to fish for stripers at DB. More than 3 nm offshore. You can fish for blues though.

they are on all the charts. saltfish.net has a pretty solid offshore contingent that run out of IRI and OCMD.

bouy A and B are labeled as DA and DB respectively on this chart:

B is fine for your boat, so long as you are familiar with all its quirks and its well maintained. As others had said, there's a ton of traffic in and out of there on wknds. There are guys that run to Massey's and beyond with 22-23 footers. It gets pretty sporty out there even on good days, 2-4's are the norm based on my limited experience. You can find plenty of good fishing at A, B, Lightship, Jackspot, Hot Dog, etc. (including BFT). If you trailer to OCMD the latter spots will be a much easier run...from IRI i'd guess they're in the range of 40-45nm but not sure exactly.
