Caught 3 rockfish a 28 & 2 - 30" bank fishing off the points at Smith Island. Also had a friend catch 3 larger ones fishing around marker 72 and 72A. Hopefully going out tomorrow and sunday.
How did you make out? My first fishing trip of the season will be next Sat. I have had a lot going on this sping and am looking forward to wetting a line...
Greg,,,Went out Saturday at Sandy Point. Saw alot of skunks including myself.Trolled off of the radar towers and got one hit that broke me. Only hit of the day.
Talked to a few others who got skunked also. Seems like the better fishing is down south.
Greg,
A little too windy on the bay. So I went out to Chincoteague on my buddy's skiff for flounder. Was still blowing but we did catch a couple of keepers.
Ben, Flatties can be fun too... I love fishing for them in the fall just off the beach in NJ when they are all schooled up. Glad you got out.
Joe, I will have to see how the reports look as the week goes on. Sounds like a lot of people trolling with mixed reports. It would be nice to hear if anyone has been chumming and how they have been doing.
Ben,,,
Thanks for the Chincoteague report, My brother is opening up his boat this week to take to his place down there....Im a big 0fer for the bay so far this season. Maybe I should head down there for some flatties....Cant do any worse......I really want to get one of those big rocks though,,,,seems like the best way to break in my new THT hat....
Greg.
Cant get any reports from anyone chumming out there....With the weather conditions out there Saturday I allmost did a little chumming of my own out there.....Those conditions were about the max for my little 17 footer.....
I think everyone that's looking for a big fish are trolling..I seen one guy anchored but I couldnt tell what he was doing....Looked like maybe just bottom fishing.....
Joe,
The Flounder should really start picking up soon. The water temp is still a little cold 58 - 60 Sunday. When it gets 65 or better its real good fishing north of Queen sound bridge. I fished Gargatha, 4 mouths, and cought the 2 keepers right beside the Queen Sound Bridge. Also, when you come down you may want to put in at Saxis to fish the bay. Its a nice ride over to Smith Island or Watts Island for Rock and Trout fishing. Bait of choise is soft crab. Let me know when ya come down and I'll give ya a report.
Thanks Ben,,,,
I'm going to help him open it up this week and I think he's going to tow it down this weekend. Probally wont fish for a couple of weeks, he's still recovering from a knee replacement operation a few weeks ago.
Went out of Saxis a few times....used to buy all our Soft Crabs over there during the run in May. We also ride down to Cape Charles a couple of times and fish the Cabbage Patch and off of the Concrete ships the end of this month. Hope we make it this year depending on his knee......
I will definalty drop you a line for the latest scoop before heading down....
