Default croaker

When do croaker start to bite up near sandy point? If they are already biting what are they biting on? I've caught some babies in my cast net.

Is there a limit on croaker? If so how many and how big do they have to be. Couldn't find them on the 2008 regs. for Virginia???

Limits in MD are 9" and 25 per day per person. I have caught Croaker near the Bay Bridge / Sandy Pt area as early as Memeorial Day. However it is usually mid to late June before they show up in any numbers. Some years - like the last 2 they never really show up at all. That's unfortunate because I really like to catch them. I would pass up a whole school of Rock to get at some Croaker. Lots of fun to catch and great eatin' too

No croaker limits ... hard to keep them from biting sometimes which really frustrates the flounder fishermen.

As long as I have fished in VA (about 55 years), I have NEVER seen or heard of ANY restrictions on croaker OR spot - almost always very plentiful!

May Dad ran a 6-pak charter boat out of Deltaville for 20+ years and I never recall him saying anything about restrictions on these fish, either?

I think you're safe - if nothing else, make a COPY of these 2 docs and keep them on the boat! Any "official" would be hard-pressed to give you any static if you show them what the "official" site has to say!

Have fun!
