My girlfriend is dragging me away from the boat and my CT/RI fishing next weekend, for four days! I wanted to know if any of you folks could offer up some advice on what I can do for fishing down there. I am considering bringing my spearfishing gear, surf rods, whatever. Are there any good charters in the area? What is the best fish to target? Are there fluke?
Stripey, you may be just in time to get an offshore charter as long as that big warm water eddy comes close to the canyons,, if it does Tuna will be on it. Go to the Sunset Marina in west oc, stop at sunset provisions (tackle shop),, they will have an offshore report, id get there around 4-5 pm when the charters come in,, youll see if there catchin.
They have a great tiki bar at the dock called TEASERS. order a pain killer!!! and some Seared Ahi, its the best.
There are also some good headboats downtown OC that will be catchin black seabass.
there is plenty to do.. but not too sure about the spear fishing. spent 30 years in back bays of OC as well as off shore. some great head boat trips, near shore, off shore as well as deep sea fishing. as stated above check out the fleet at end of the day.
You have to make a trip to the Green Turtle Tavern. Look up Coastal Fisherman online for updates on fishing, surf-fishing, etc.
If you like to dance and party try Seacrets at night. If you just want to throw in a line you can fish the inlet
at the end of the boardwalk. As all have said lots of bars and fishing in the Ocean City area.

plenty of fluke there now. just caught a mess of them over the weekend...unfortunately we ended up fishing fluke 'cause it was blowing like hell offshore. no sharking for us.
we went down to the OC fishing center (which is off the OC penninsula and just across the Rt 50 bridge ) around 4 o'clock to see the big boys come in. they've got a big charter fleet that runs out of there. great bar/restuarant called micky finn's (good fish tacos). anyway, we apparently missed seeing a 280-lb mako, but saw a 210-lb'er.
also, lots of bluefish being caught which bodes well for the mako mania tourney this weekend.
actually they have shark tournaments the next two weekends down there. this weekend (june 5-7) is at bahia marina which is at 21st street, bayside. they have a great bar/restuarant there too called fish tales. next weekend (june 12-14) is at the o.c. fishing center. here's the tourney schedule: http://www.ocfishing.com/tournaments.html.
inshore/bay charters and head boats out of both of those marinas too.

what in the HE and double hockey sticks is a FLUKE???????
^^^hahaha! yeah, i guess fluke is what them dang yankees call 'em!
flounder/fluke whatever you want to call 'em -- i'll tell you this, they were hittin the heck out of the chartreuse gulp minnows all day! we also had shiners and squid and they prolly hit the gulp minnows 2 to 1 over the "real" baits.

Haven't caught any this year yet. But I hear Hampton bar down here in the Norfolk area is starting to produce...

Well, OC certainly had plenty of bars and restaurants! I went to Fishtales and was able to see the weigh in for the Mako Mania tourney! That was cool, Someone got a 500 + pound thresher. Thanks to all that offered advice. I think I went to every bar!!!
yeah...OC does not want for bars! although it has been steadily cleaning up its act over the past 10 years or so...many more respectable options for families.
fish tales is always a good time. it's great for us with the kids since the playground is right next to the outdoor dining. and it's great to be there for the weigh-ins.
my buddies fished that tournament but couldn't find a big mako. they caught 10 sharks (8 blues, a brown and a small mako) but nothing that would get them on the board...actually the first time in 9 years that they didn't have a shark on the board for at least one day. they also had a 12-14 foot great white in the baits.
