I just moved to Westminster, MD. Grew up in S. FL. I was wandering if anyone could help point in the right direction, as to the places most likely to see some action. My wife and I are just getting into surf fishing, and it's quite a drive over to the coast for nothing! Also, when is the bite on up here? High or Low tide? Any help is much appreciated!
July august is my best times, except fall rock fish. I find fish no matter what tide, have a varried bait assortment. I like bethany beach but any ocean beach is good look for surf variations for fish. I take blood worms, mullet, bunker, squid and rig a different pole with different biat until i see whats biting. If you have four wheel drive get youself a delaware surf driving permit. Ill be in Bethany beach June 20-27. I have the beach permit during the week the beaches are empty dont see another fisherman for a mile. this is a really good resource http://www.oysterbaytackle.com/ also theres a nice full service camp ground near the inlet. with a marina right across the bridge with charter and head boats. I take the kids on the head boat fro at least one day.
Welcome to the Chesapeake. there are a couple areas you might want to try.
Sandy Point State Park has a rock breakwater and I've seen some folks fish there. probably get perch in the summer and rockfish in the fall. I think you can fish the shore as well but I am not sure. The park is right at the foot of the Bay Bridge on the western shore.
Kent Narrows is on the eastern shore not too far after you've crossed the bridge. There's plenty of parking. Matapeake Park is also on the eastern shore just over the bridge in Stevensville and has a nice pier.
Now, if you can into freshwater fishing, there are quite a few rivers and resevoirs that would be closer to Mt Airy. I'm not familiar with them though.

Sandy point is very good for beginners. Get in very early though during the summer it can get crowded. There is a very good bait and tackle shop near by. "Anglers"
Md/Delaware cost is a ride from your home, but worth it when the action is hot in the suds. Assateague Island, Ocean City, and the Delaware beaches are much fun, even when the action is off a bit. Drive onto the beaches, set up, and relax. Make sure to check the need for license & permits.
I can hook you up with contacts here if you'd like. I'm in Slower Lower Delaware myself, and like to hit the suds.
