Default rays and skates

Am I the only one who has seen skates and rays up as far as the chester river? I know they are not Cownose rays, they are different. I have seen thousands literally around my pier and have never caught them because they bent my hook or broke 50 lb test. They go for storm alot though.

definitely. it's a little early for them, but they're all over the mouth of the Magothy as it gets warmer.

They have definately been in eastern bay too. Had a guy hook one at the boat ramp by Skipjacks landing on KI. Fought it for like 20 minutes and tried to work it up the ramp, but it kept turning sideways and taking drag. Finally broke the line, but we definately saw it surface 6-7 times.

They are here !! Our community pier is on Herring Bay just north of Deale. Water at pier is shallow and was very still this evening, I could see the fins and the mud being stirred up on the bottom, occasionally making out a skate.
It's a little early but they usually show up the first couple weeks of June.
The good news is that the big hardhead usually arrive with the skate......so bait em up and hit the shallows in the evening !!
