Default best time to try chesapeake area

When would be the best time of the summer to try fishing in the bay. I would like to make a trip this year and sample some of the flounder, stripers, blues and what ever else I can catch. I need to set up some plans and would appreciate some advice as to when would be my best bet.
thanks.

What part of the bay are you headed to? Most of the summer you can catch croaker flounder blues and local smaller stripers. I personally like the spanish mack run in the late summer/fall. If you want to focus on the big striper you would need a spring or late fall trip. However, at those times the other fish aren't around much. The timing does depend on what part of the bay you are heading to.

I have not picked a spot yet. I fished with a friend a few years back out of Virginia Beach. I guess I would start there unless there are better spots. I guess I am "fishing" for the best sport and time to be on the bay. Thanks for your reply.

You'll find the best fishing and most variety down by the Norfolk/VA Beach area. When you go will probably be best decided by what you really want to catch. They have all the species you talked about except the striper bite. That is up in MD during the summer. But they do have red and black drum, tautog, sheepshead, cobia and trout to keep you busy as well. We've always had good luck between the middle of June/end of July.

The guys on Tidalfish.com can really help you out. Register there and go to the VA Angler board.

u can catch plenty o stripers in the summer, but theres no real reason to when u can catch em three times larger in the winter. may to october it is "on" in virginia beach area - huge red/black drum, cobia, doormat flounder, sheepshead, giant togs, triggers, seabass if u are willing to go offshore, ajs, crevalle jacks, spadefish, just to name a few.
