Default Fort Monroe this Saturday...

I have to fly down there this Saturday (Dec 8) for about 5 hours. I would like to take a rod and some metal down to cast for the time I'm stuck on the ground. The weather looks good....what are my chances of hooking up with some blues or stripers?

I will be on the base which is just across from Norfolk on the Langley side. Hampton area. There is an impoundment on the west side and the bay on the east side. I could fish either side. Can't really take a surf rod with me, so I will be limited in casting distance. What do you guys think? Aything good recently that close to shore? I can find a way to take a 10 footer if I have to, but would rather just pack a 7' M.

Default RE: Fort Monroe this Saturday...

There is a pier on base, and you can easily limit out on rockfish there. There are also some rock jetty's on the northern part of the base. If you can still fish them, they produce fairly well. Since you have access to get on base, you can try Norfolk Naval base as well. There is a pier on base that is decent for rocks and flounder right now with some blues and small specks mixed in. Finally, you can try the Willoughby Spit jetty across the bridge
