Default MacArthur Center - downtown Norfolk, VA?

Anyone know how "safe" this area is after dark?

I MAY be going (alone) to a concert tomorrow (Tuesday) nite at The NORVA - it's across the street from MacArthur Center, on Monticello Ave..

I'll probably try to get there by 3:00P.M. or so to get a bite to eat and avoid some traffic. The doors open at 5:30P.M., but the concert may not be over 'til 11 or 12:00 midnight.

Is this area SAFE enough to walk back to the car afterward? I'll probably try to park in a deck within 1-2 blks. of The NORVA, as meters are 2-hr. only and need to be fed 'til 10:00P.M..

I plan on driving down from Richmond via the Monitor-Merrimac Brige Tunnel, and coming into downtown Norfolk from the Portsmouth/Midtown Tunnel side.

Any input from you folks that live/work down there? I just don't want to jeopardize my safety at such a late hour when leaving??????????????????

HELP (opinions)!!!!!!!!!!!!! I need to leave Richmond by 1-1:30P.M. tomorrow and need some answers, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS,

I was a police officer in Norfolk for 20 years, the area you are talking about is heavily patrolled, and the parking areas monitored fairly carefully, there are a couple of good eateries by the Norva

Thanks for the info - there seems to be valet parking at the MacArthur Center, across the street from The NORVA? Not sure how late that's open?

I had thought about eating at Kelly's Backstage Restaurant - right behind The NORVA, on Granby St., and it's somehow affiliated with The Norva. Eat there and they let you in the show early?

Thanks, again for the comments - police info is always helpful!

Any other comments?

Regards,

I am not sure how late macArthur garage is open, there are several pay lots around near the NORVA, I believe the garage is open pretty late as the mall is open late and the eateries and movie theaters are open later than the store. Enjoy your show!

Bruce,

Most garages open til 1AM but the one on Freemason (cross street - Monticello)which is probably the one you want, will stay open later depending on the event. The area is safe and you'll probably be walking with the rest of the people attending the event to the garage. When they have events the garage charges $4 up front. The valet parking at the mallis also available at the Monticello entrance. The hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 9 AM to midnight and Sunday 11 AM to midnight. Cost $5. When I went to school there for the captain's license at TCC, I used the same garage. Hope this helps.

Thanks Mud Runner!

Looks like my best bet would be to get out of there (NORVA) by 11:45 and get over to the valet.

My concern is that the MAIN band I want to see is my daughter's boyfriend's band - they are the "headliner" and won't be playing 'til last - after 3 other bands.

I may call NORVA in the A.M. and see when they say the last band will finish up?

Don't want to get "locked out" of a parking deck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANKS!

Regards,
