Default stripers--So. Bay Logistics

Drove down the Eastern Shore, stopped in Cape Charles, crossed the BBT, to Rude Inlet and Lynnhaven. Looking to base our 24' cc down there when the fishing gets going. Good city launch ramp, trailer storage, cheap wet slips, etc.

Here is the dilemma: Loved Cape Charles as a place to base the boat; nice small town with a couple of good resturants and a great Saloon. But there are no places to stay that are angler friendly and make $-sense. $130/ nite for a room w/o windows (none!) in the Cape Charles hotel. The Kiptopeake Motel--well, the Admiral won't stay there.

Lynnhaven and Rude are good spots with plenty of places to stay, but the logistics are daunting. They are not small fishing towns. Or maybe I'm missing something--are there any easy solutions to basing a boat in either spot? Wet slip or on a trailer--either works.

Any advice most appreciated.

I hear what you are saying! My wife has the same exact opinion on the two motels around Cape Charles (i.e. not acceptable).

We rent a house or condo for a week at a time to fish the CBBT. Nice rentals can be had fairly cheap (certainly no more than the price of a motel per week) in the fall and winter since demand is very low.

I have rented one of the condos right at the entrance to Kiptopeke State Park. This year we are trying out a lakefront house near Cape Charles.

Look on the internet for rentals and real estate agents in Cape Charles. Send me a bmail if you would like details on who we have worked with in the past.

It's Rudee,not Rude

Lots of the hotels have Fisherman's Specials, and there are several outdoor lots that you can pay to leave the boat/trailer when you're not in town.Check around and see what you think. I don't think you'll find a wet slip, all the marinas have wait lists. Hopefully, the water will cool down soon, we're still around 70 degrees in the ocean. Great for surfing, but rotten for rockfish
