An aquaintance who had originially said "no problemo" is now too busy and thinks his automotive (Diamont) paint system might not work for marine applications.
I just called another local "custom" high end autobody guy, he said he had never heard of awlgrip.
Ok, so does anyone know of anybody that can prep, prime, and paint aluminum?
If you can get it soda blasted to get it clean, then immediately(you don't want that raw aluminum in the open air for long at all) take it to Atlantic Powdercoating. They do nice work.If you want it painted, take it to Composite Yacht in Trappe. They can blast it there.
I hadn't thought of that. What are the pros and cons? Has anyone on here had something like that powdercoated and can they match the white of my paint sample? I'm willing to cross the bridge if I have to.

I'm a big fan of powdercoating. It's tougher, lasts longer than paint and looks good as well. There is also a company called Powderburns in Sudlersville, MD that I have had good luck with, the owners number is 410-725-4281.
Trojan used powder coated parts on thier International's (cleats, arches, bowrails), most of it flaked off. Alot of builders use it on aluminum arches and it flakes off. I've been in the marine bussiness for 37 years and I've seen alot of it.
Yeah I've only been around 21 years (total...on Earth) so I reckon I don't know...I can only comment one what I've seen and in all cases anything I've had powder coated held up.
That having been said, you've probably seen stuff that didn't, but the better statement would have been "Powder coat CAN wind up bubbling up and flaking off aluminum."
