Had to cut away my achor Sat. at the 2nd island. Using a danforth achor,,,, was told that is the wrong anchor to use for that area.... what do I use so I don't have to cut it away due to the fact it got stuck HARD on probably a rock???

Thanks

Danforths don't anchor well on rocks -- you may have snagged a sunken log or branch. Unless you want to use a trip line when you anchor, only a mighty mite

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...&classNum=null

has a chance of retrieval, because the aluminum grapnel flukes will straighten out.

The Mighty Mite isn't meant for SERIOUS anchoring (overnight or in big winds) but is great for fishing. The flukes can break from metal fatigue after too many bendings.

I'm getting one for next season, though.

I concur, i lost an anchor off the HRBT a few years ago. Sometimes I try and power the anchor out but its kind of risky the line may snap or rip the cleat off.

Dyllan,

Stop by the marina store at Little Creek. We stock wreck anchors at reasonable prices. Anything you need for your boat, we carry. We only sell to military. If I'm at the marina, I'll show you how to rig it for easy retrieval.

Funny you brought that up. I was fishin the yancey last wed on the incoming tide, i threw out my wreck anchor
out and it held me in position for 4 hrs until the tide started to turn. so i pulled it in at slack tide and also
pulled up a danforth, another wreck anchor and a ton of fishing line ,bottom rigs, bucktails, storms, and some rope.
today i finally cleaned the anchors and painted them and they are good as new. FINDERS KEEPERS!

How about anchoring up at the 3rd. We lost one (wreck anchor) over there on Sunday. I'll gladly pay a finders fee

This might work.

Like pinfisher said, get a rock hook with about 8' of chain. Attach your chain to the crown with a shackle, leave some slack and use a zip tie or mono to the stem. For a 18' boat one or two wraps of 80# mono will hold you fine on the reef barring any hurricanes.
