What type of boating are you interested in purchasing the boat for?

Cruising, fishing some of both also what size and types are you looking at?

In that price range you are more than likely gonna be looking at used boats for that money with the a walk around or a cuddy cabin on board. You would have to move up on your price point maybe 8,000 to 10,000 for the new category in that size. My recommendation would be to search sites such as craigslist, the hull truthfor sale forum, the local classifieds and such to find something in what you are interested in. The next thing you will want to do for a used boat is contact a surveyor to look at the boat for you. They can provide a wealth of information about the boat you are looking at as well as perform a compression check on the engine. I have never bought used only new so I do not know what to recommend for a reputable surveyor in this area.

As for a good mechanic I use mainly Ken's Marine in North Stafford he services Yamaha which is what is on my boat. They are good people there kind of a small family run operation. Hopefully this is some what of a help as you begin this process.

Hi:

If you need a good surveyor, I would recommend Jeff D'Alessandro. I used him last year to survey a 22' custom built Norweigian Pilot House Sport Fisher. He is very knowledgeable, and spends time to explain everything to his customers. He can be reached at the following email: Marinesurveyor1@hotmail.com

I hope this helps!

HARBIN marine is the best mechanic your gonna find for 500 miles. and for a great boat rigged for Mom and her drinking pals as well as Dad and fishing boys.. (Rod storage up under gunwales etc.)

Check this out...

I am trading it in using Hoffmasters on the Occaquan... the boat has been professionally maintained, and Hoffmasters will really treat you great!!!!

If you're searching online for a boat, boatraderonline.com is a whole lot bigger and easier to use than craigslist. Try yachtworld.com as well. There will probably be lots of boats like what you are looking for listed there.
